Hello all - I'm new to the RL and am thinking of doing Astraal Vao in her cover art outfit. Pam has already told me that her outfit should be made of textured fabric similar to Sheltay's aide outfit. Any other pointers for a newbie? The cloak part looks to be long in both the front and back drape portions, is this correct or is the front short like Sheltay's? So many questions not enough time time to type them all. will post sample swatches of any fabrics that I find.

I'm in the Orlando, FL area and will be at CV, In costume will depend on if I can get it finished in time. That weekend is also my daughter's 1st B-Day. YES she will be at her 1st CON that day!

well here are the first 4 that I found online at Calico Corners - was actually recommended to check them out by the ladies at JoAnn Fabrics. Have a feeling a field trip to see these in person is in order. Will make sure I take my camera with me that day.

At first: Hello on the RL boards, too. Smile

A general hint about costuming: Do it for the love of it. But you know this already, I suppose, so I'm going for some more specific. The Astrall Vao is a complicated one. I recommend - if you don't have much experience with a sewing machine - that you make the costume two times. The first time with cheap material. There, it isn't a financial crisis when it comes to bad cuts with the scissor or not-so-good sewing-togethers. When you gained the experience with the first costume, make it again from scratch with the good material.
Of course, Lekku or boots Astraal is wearing mustn't redone when they're good in the first place. ^^

How do you want to do the bodypaint? It a challenging topic and many costumes are great-looking but are failing when it comes to the paintjob.

When you're going for her "cover outfit", then you mean this, right? It's really similar to the one of Sheltay Retrac. And, to add this, we now have two sources for this particular costume: The cover of Legacy 3 and the Legacy Era Campaign Guide, where this picture is taken from.

It's also very interesting to notice how different her cover outfit and her interior art outfit are (link).

Pam's done the Astraal outfit too, but the interior art. I know you contacted her about it, nontheless I'm posting the link here again for other folks to look.

This one, I think - looks like a duck, quacks like a duck... must be a cosplayer.

As far as differences between cover art and interior art, I like to think people in a galaxy far, far away own more than one outfit. Very Happy

I believe I posted some possible fabric selections on another site, reposted here.

Since Astraal's cover art costume is so similar to Sheltay's outfit, it might benefit you to check out a few sites that discuss Sheltay. Here are some good ones that might offer you a bit of insight about making the costume:

http://www.eastofthewoods.com/c-sheltay.html
http://www.padawansguide.com/sheltay.shtml
http://www.stormtrooperprincess.com/sheltay/index.html

Here's a copy of the cover art, minus the text from the cover. Sorry about the line down the side... she was placed against the spine seam of the book.

Hope that helps!

Pam :-)

PAM - THANK YOU FOR THE AMAZING PIC!!!!!!!!!
It shows the fabric in amazing detail, YOU ROCK!
and for the links.

Daritha - As far as body painting goes I have some amazing contacts who are professional bodypaint artists, and they have painted me via airbrushing for several halloween events in theme parks here in FL. As they already do my husband's makeup and prothetics for Darth Maul I fig'd I'd ask them to do mine as well. The stuff they've used on me in the past DOESN"T come off my skin until I use a solvent called Super-Solv, oily but effective for removal.
The Astraal pic that you posted looks different from the cover art version, similar but there's enough of a difference to be considered a seperate outfit in my book. - Sorry I'm probably as picky as Pam Embarassed

Nara Pel - thank you for the links, I will be checking them out.

Jada - thank you for the encouragement

I recently purchased a serger and have been taking the classes on how to use it. I'm using my son's "shiny knight" costume as a learning experience with it before starting on anything for myself Razz

by the way - how to you attach pics on here?

No, no my fault. I recognized the little differences between the outfits too late. However, now we have three costumes for Astraal! Cool
