Which part is too thick?

I think I'm going to need to get a wig or 3/4 wig plus extensions.

The double braid that goes over the top of the head (via a headband) is the part that is too thick. I'm going to unstitch it from the headband, unwrap the leather lacing, unbraid it, and take out some of the "hair" so that when it's re-braided it will be thinner. My hair is thick, and makes a chunky braid when I braid it, so I thought I should make the headband braid sort of chunky, but it doesn't look right.

Tonight after my husband gets home (2nd shift) I hope to sit on the couch with him and work on the braid as we watch TV before bed. The idea behind that is I'm hoping to get my husband's help taking pictures for RL submission tomorrow. Smile

Thanks. Smile It was hot and very muggy out today, so it was a good test going outside for the pictures to see if I could handle wearing this in the Florida mugginess. It wasn't too bad. Smile

That looks great Rachel, thank you for sharing! I need to get moving on mine or else I'll never get it done.

How did you make the holes for the lacing?

I thought my sewing awl would be perfect for making the holes for the lacing, but thankfully I tested it on a scrap first. It made holes, but it also snagged my fabric. So, I used sharp scissors and cut a small hole in the fabric. I used pins to mark where each hole should be, since they need to line up with each other on both sides of the seam. I cut one side, then the other. Typically, I had to cut through my lining fabric separately since it didn't always get caught with the top fabric when I cut the first holes. I used a leather lace needle (you can get them from Tandy) to push the leather lace through the holes. It's tedious, but not too bad. Smile

Thanks ladies. It was refreshing to be able to start and finish this gown so quickly after Padme's aqua Georgette gown, which took several months!!

I found that once I got started, it didn't take too long. Hopefully, the same will be true for you. Good luck, and have fun with it. Smile

Mine was officially approved today! I'm glad I was able to wear it to the Last Tour to Endor.

Awesome, congrats! I don't think I saw you there, but it was pretty crowded. I was looking for Matt in his Luke costume, but didn't see him either. I did find one of our "brothers" though:
