http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm182/darthhart/019.jpg

as some of you know, over the last few months i have done some lightsaber demonstrations at events with nick

I have trained in the medieval long sword for a number of years and was asked by beth if i could choreograph a lightsaber routine for the appleton concert.

if people are interested i would like to teach a lightsaber training camp. it would be in sheboygan and last for about 4 hours. i would have to charge a small fee (about $5) each for rental of the room. i was thinking of a saturday or sunday in september,

if anyone is interested in learning how to use a sword and put together some simple routines please let me know, or if you have any questions

You have to be very careful where and what you are doing this for. If this is a RL event and you are representing the RL there was a thread a little while ago saying that you couldnt do any type of saber fighting. I will have to try and find the thread. Im only saying this to be cautious and carefull. Thats all.

i was only planning on inviting legion members, if lightsaber training is a problem i could call it long sword training and teach the 14th century sword and participants can translate that how they want

but thanks for the warning

For events...we are allowed to "battle" with each other...
but not with the public..

This is really a members only thing and is not an event..

in addition...

we are not allowed to conduct any forms of "lightsaber training" at events as that is a conflict of interest with the on going "Jedi Academy" at Disney

We would probably have to put an age restriction on it, as well. We might be treading on thin ice if we try to teach combat to those under 18.

Basically the issue is that LFL doesn't want us to teach or fight with non-members, especially kids. There is a liability there with a child getting hurt. If we are sword fighting between our members as a demonstration, there is nothing that says we can't do that.

I'd be interested, definitely - do you suppose you can also demo the fighting styles that are in Star Wars but make no sense whatsoever in actual swordfighting (like, for example, the reverse-grip on lightsabers - I can't even figure out how that's supposed to work)?

I also have a friend who trained for a few years in medieval swordfighting as well - should I try to drag him along as an extra sparring dummy? I've been trying to get him to join a saber dueling club ever since he put together a basic Zayne costume....

how does this sound to everyone.

i plan on doing this seminar on sunday august 1st, probably starting about noon. it will last 4 hours and will be at my house. i have a big back yard. i have looked around for places indoors but have had no luck. i figure if we do it in august the weather should be good, and it will be free. also the possibility of a bbq at my house. also nick will be available to teach with me as his baby is due at the end of august,

we will teach the basics of sword fighting, maybe show some different styles such as reverse grip and double bladed sabre, and have some time to choreograph some simple routines. we can handle about 20 people.

please let me know if you want to attend this session so i have an idea on numbers

see you there

Yeah...Sheboygan is a haul for me...
I live down near Joliet...

I am quite certain that I would indeed learn a lot..
but the problem is...
if one does not use what they learn..
it ends up forgotten....I have forgotten more the last several years than some folks learn in a lifetime....lol..

and around here...
I just don't know how often I would get a chance to use the skills...

We will have to see...
I live one day at a time these days...

if anyone is coming to this you will need something to swing around and practice with, your best option is a shinai, you can get them on ebay for about $15, or a cheaper method is a 4 foot lenght of pvc pipe covered in padding or a pool noodle then wrap it in duct tape. this will save your fx sbers

I have already made practice saber of dowel for a couple classes that I took years ago at Film Con....but wrapping some foam around the dowel sounds like a good idea...
I got smacked pretty hard by someone else's dowel saber
