I always get mine from a plastic shop in Rockford cause I can drive in and pick it up. And if I order something they dont have in stock they are cool about just tacking it on to another large customers order so I dont have to pay for the shipping. Only down side is you have to wait till it comes available. They dont stock the 1 mm sintra, but the 3 mm and 6 mm are readily available.

Sintra is great stuff cause it is just foam pvc, so it is easily glued together using purple primer and pvc glue.

Yep 1 mm for the skins of course it is two layers, framing I would use 6 mm. And for the main structure of the frame where it is load bearing I use wood. I have a U shape section of 2x6 inside DZE that provide her main support for the legs. I will probably add a cross-member later for added support. Though I wont use the gas pipe cause it adds way too much weight. I found a company that makes light weight alu. beams for very cheap.

Excellent thread. I won't be able to attend the gathering on June 12, but I like reading anything about R2 building. My family keeps asking me when I am going to get started with gluing the frame parts that I bought from Darryl. Embarassed

I'd love to build one, but I don't have the skills, time, money.
Besides one project at a time. Lets see how the HIC comes out.

How right you are....
and I should know better...
it really is wise to do only one project at a time!

well as disappointing as it is, unfortunately Tom J. has to leave on a business trip and is forced to cancel the Midwest r2 builders gathering, til further notice.

On a slightly more annoying subject, I have been working on my r2-dze, and she has been most disagreeable with her paint. I have had severe pealing issues on her dome which has led to a lot of aggravation. So much that all I have done with D2 is just drag him in the house to do more work. But thats about all I have done with him.

Wow...that is a bummer on both counts...

It has been so humid lately that I guess I am not surprised that the paint is giving you some trouble...
paint issues are such a pain....

Wow, the last time I was planning on going to Tom's for the Midwest gathering he had to go away on a business trip. Sad Then I missed last year's because I didn't check the boards. I wasn't able to go this year, so now I don't feel so bad. Hopefully it'll work out next year.
