UPDATE on page 3

Hey guys!
I know, it's been a long time, and I am sorry for the limited contact, but yes, I'm still around, and I do check in from time to time. At any rate, I am working on a new prop. Actually, this is in response to some request to recreate the 'toss me another charge' Endor bunker buster.

I borrowed a kit from Don to get some measurements off of, and from there I started scratch building the master pattern. I'm still tweaking this thing, but it looks like I should have some of these after the first of the year. It will end up being a part resin and part vacuum formed kit. The base is designed to bolt together to the shaft, and pivot if you wanted it to. Also, a provision for a magnetic base is under development, but may not be part of the kit due to cost.

At any rate, I wanted to share with the Legion the latest project to come out of the TK560 workshop. I'm pretty excited about it, and if all goes well, I should have a prototype to send out to a few folks for evaluations in January. I'll post pics in a week or two on www.tk560.com

Jim

I'm very interested in this. I even have the perfect pouch for "demo" on my ERT kit.

I was wondering, could you make this out of expanding foam, similar to Frank's clone belts? Or are you using a tougher resin? I'd hate to get one, then "toss someone another charge," and have them drop it and the resin shatter.

I've seen E-11 upgrade kits shatter when dropped, so that's my only concern.

But if these are lightweight, I could easily get 2-3, depending on how many I can stuff into my pack. OW likes big boom. Evil or Very Mad

Thanks everyone for their feedback. Yes, that is the charge [I don't know the proper name for it] The flared base will be vacuum formed, and I already have made a couple of them. The shaft, is what is giving me the fits right now, as the taper does not vac form well, and the silicone mold I made for it does not work well. I am attempting another approach, and if that works out well, I think everyone will be happy with it.

As for the expanding foam option, no, I had not considered that, but will look into it, as my new method of manufacturing may lend it's self to this.

As for a base, there are several provisions I am working on. One is a flat piece of polystyrene. Trimmed and fitted to the bottom, any number of attachment options would be available. From magnetic tape to velcro.

Jim

Donna, pretty much that prop. Here is the reference image I am working off of.

The mold is done. Below is a sneak peek...

I'm going to try and cast these as a flex-foam item. Wish me luck. If all goes well, it will have a detailed surface, but foamy interior. Think Nerf, and you get the idea. These should be pretty tough, and easy to paint. More to come!

Silicone mold is done. Going to do a test pour this PM, and maybe get some pics up over the next couple of days.

You should consider a couple of magnets on the bottom so as to place it on a cars or the house fridge or wherever.

rigid foam test was a partial success. I did not wait long enough to see if it was going to work or not, so if failed, BUT the mold works, and I think the material will be featherweight. I still have to do some refinements but this is real close!

Magnets should be pretty easy to add.

Did some more composite tests with FoamIt8 and SmoothCast 45D, a really rubbery resin. So far, I'm pretty happy with the results. I have done one with standard resin as well, but the thing is pretty heavy. The foam option is a must on this thing, and the softer resin is good to keep the sharp edges from breaking off.

I'll try to get some pics up, but the Christmas Day cheer might slow me down.

Merry Christmas!
