I really need help with the brooch. I can't make it by myself. Since the standard asks for the specific design, what can I do?
also,
anyone has a tutorial for the hair style?

I did it!!!!

From etsy.com

Mine

Of course, it uses a lot more hair to get a thicker look, and also needs to be longer.

It uses a chain link wig hair extension. The pictures are quite easy to follow and the result is IMO very accurate.

The thing is... how to make this chain link wig hair extension?

I've got a question about how people are doing the front and back seaming on the leggings.

I've had my costume made for several years, and while I'm having my aunt fabric shop in Albuquerque for me for Refugee fabrics and I'm overmcoming headdress fears, I thought I'd make the few small adjustments (very few) on this one to bring it up to standard.

I bought my leggings from Dharma, I do believe. If it's not to much trouble from ladies who have been approved, would you mind posting a pic of your approved seaming?

Thanks!

The standards state "4 seams on each leg, front, right, back and left" but I do not agree with it. I think there are only 3 seams "front, back, and inner (inseam)". I tried to get the former LMO to change it, but she disagreed with me. If you have 3 or 4 seams, I will allow either one (I'm the LCJ for Padme).

Here is mine (you can't see the back seams very well, but they are there):

I was curious... do you have a zipper or hooks somewhere? I don't see any! I put a zipper in the back and I don't like the way the collar sat. You did a very nice job!

I read on padawan's guide that the original costume's collar was attached with magnets. So, I made my shirt/top with an invisible zipper in the back and then attached my collar with snaps (cheaper than magnets). The fold of the collar in the back hides the top of the zipper. Smile

*Edit, I forgot I had documented it with pictures on my blog when I was making it, you can see the top without the collar front & back on this blog post: http://costumesandartwork.blogspot.com/2009/03/padme-mustafar-update.html

Hi all!
I am currently in the finishing stages of this costume and wondered if I could get some guidance from those who have done it???

My biggest challenge seems to be the collar....doesn't seem to want to work, could be too stiff, too big?? Not sure at this point. Sad

I also am trying to figure out how the leather straps attach and look seamless. I make the buckle and brooch out of Sculpey clay and painted with a gold leafing pen, I am happy with the way they turned out. Smile

Here are a few photos of my progress, it's actually the first time I have put EVERYTHING on instead of "fitting". Wink

I am still trying to figure out the hair too...some of it is mine, some extensions - not perfect yet but the idea is there Smile The gauntlets are the last thing I need to do, still embroidering.... Rolling Eyes

THANK YOU!! Smile

I think that the collar might be a little too tall in the back? That's just my view. The buckle looks great though! I also like the leather on the bottom of your braid.

I tried the magnets on the collar. They were a pain, and last minute I sewed the collar on, and hated it. I like the snaps idea, and I'll definitely do that for the one I'm doing now to submit for approval. Very Happy

I think maybe it's not so much that the collar is too tall, but maybe a bit too long. It looks like maybe there is too much length that you're trying to put in the collar opening and it causes it to bunch funny and stick up taller than it should. This collar is pretty tall and gets folded over itself very far. Like gunslingerpadme mentioned, my collar is attached with snaps and that works well. You have to get into the top, zip it up the back, and then attach the collar.

For the harness, I didn't use real leather because I didn't have the money for real, so mine doesn't lay as smoothly as I'd like. For attachment, I made mine open in the back where it is straight, like a belt, fastened with velcro. I fastened the criss cross strap on the right to the "belt" and then I velcroed the other criss cross strap. Does that make sense? I wish I had a picture to show you.

Thanks, it's amazing how something that should be easy, turns out to be such a headache. Smile

Makes perfect sense. Smile I was thinking of using velcro as well.
Hoping to finish this one soon! Then, on to the next Smile
