Awesome find! Wearing something like that - does it help keep the proper RFT helmet on better? I know some people wear a baseball cap under theirs??

I remember that: back in 2007, before Cel.Europe.
When we made some research to have the same RFT outfit in all european bases, I remember a photo of someone who glued a baseball cap inside the helmet (visor backward) to hold it on the head.

About the cap: yes, IMHO the cap may be gray, matching the trousers.
A BDU cap in gray run around $5, and it's available in the same shops who sells the BDU black jacket (to do the vest) and BDU grey pants.

It would be a little more difficult to find some fabric to add the front and the ear flap.
To cannibalize another cap can be a solution, but is there enough material to go around?
And to kill a second pair of trousers (or a jacket) just to have a bit of fabric, uhm...

I love this find! I think that the gray color does look good and would prefer it to khaki or olive. I also see the hat as more of a Hoth style cap rather than a Imp Officer cap based on the comparison pics provided. The LMO would know best and would need to make a call as to if this could be worn with your costume in an official capacity but I would like one for off duty, casual, or informal situations.

I agree with you Richard!!! maybe we should get a mass order together between the two bases and get some for our troopers!!!

SWEET! So who currently makes Hoth caps? Has anyone contacted them about making a RFT gray version?

This is a Hoth hat that another trooper created. If you look at the hat without the quilting, you notice that it is very very close to the illustrated hat in the comic.

@Kievan Mereel:
Please concern, that the RFTs in "Battlefront" are not normal RFTs. They are an own class. They are classified as "Vanguards", so with tan pants and with gaitors. There are already discussions about the Vanguards in the Forum.

And about the cap: I would never wear such a cap.
In comics, there are many things painted and - in my opinion - with many mistakes and too much fantasy of the artists.
I just wear the Rebel Fleet Trooper helmet with the costume.

Thank you Thomas for a "con" regarding the hat. So far only "pro" has been expressed. It's a valid reason for people to consider before making or commissioning one.

While I am a fan of the hat idea, all sides of the debate should be welcome. Smile

Nice find! It seems to be the same cap that's worn by Derek Lyons-type Yavin base personnel.

Well there you go... ANH, Hasbro figure, and the comic book mentioned earlier in this topic (even though it's a different kind of cap)... that makes three sources. I suppose the cap could be added as an optional item to the standards. Smile The rank bar is there even though there are even less sources to support it.

One small detail though... in the screengrab the cap appears to be light olive/tan, while on the figure it's gray and matches the pants. I wonder if this will spark yet another gray vs tan debate. Laughing

Shooting the part in gray means it could be in the same mold as the legs (lowering production costs by not having to set up another run for just one part in tan) or not having to pay for a manual operation (a person) to paint it tan.

I spent 4 years in production engineering - even shaving a few pennies off the cost of production will add up if you make thousands of somethng a year.

Typically, Retail Price is double what the retailer paid for it and that price is double (or more) than what it cost to make it. Worse depending on how many "layers" of distribution are in the chain.

So a figure at $6.00 retail = $3.00 from the wholesaler/distributor = $1.50 from the factory = $0.75 manufactiring cost. A 5 cent tan hat would be almost a 10% hit against profit.

Take anything seen on a "action figure" with a pound or two of salt Laughing

All good points, Mac Bragg.

However as Blair pointed out in a private conversation with me, we don't really need three sources. The caps appeared in ANH and that means they're 100% canon and that's all evidence we need. Smile That also supports putting 'tan cap' in the standards instead of 'gray cap'.

good to know. I have caps in various colors from the same company that produced our pants. it'll be nice to break them out every so often.

Would the option be for a "cap" or a "cap of a *specific* color"? I really do like the cap but it's a personal preference for it to be grey to match the pants. I'm not meaning to start a color debate, just asking if I can have a grey one and not cause an issue because it's my own personal taste to have one color over another?
