By Kay-Dee:
This is mostly a hair tutorial for Leia by Kay Dee (with minor information about the costume as well):

I wrote up a tutorial for insta-buns, for ladies with short hair a while back and just realized I never posted it in this thread:

These tutorials are amazing!! When I become a full fledged member, I'll start working on this costume. |

As we have been having a lot of funky belts come through lately, I figured I would create a visual guide for belts as they are making or buying their belts:

I was poking around wig tutorials and happened to find this one. I think it could be another useful technique for people to try out.

For Leia, you'd probably want to use a thicker roll as a base, though. _________________

Here's a nice video tutorial I found for wrapping buns using your natural hair together with extensions. It would probably work best for people with medium to long hair.

Jenna, the guide is a great idea. I think I know where the belt snafus are coming from, because I did about the same for my daughter's dress. The middle plate is definitely not wide enough, but I think the rest of it's okay.
Can the guide be pinned somewhere? _________________ One mean, green-eyed fitch. |

Here is how I made my Leia wig, for anyone who can't use their own hair and needs to use a base wig:

Thank you so much for sharing that. Stubbing the pigtails is such a good idea to keep it looking neat.

Can do! I will pin that as a sticky thread in the Leia forum. _________________

General Princess graciously made a printable pattern for Leia belts that can be adjusted based on your size.

My buns was made from four braid wigs, which I've bought in a theatrical accessories shop in Moscow. I've straightened and put them together.
1. Make a straight parting on the head. Secure the parting with a fixing spray.
2. Collect hair in tails
3. Bind tails in braids and make mini buns, fasten them with hairpins and studs
4. Twist the applicable hair and form a bun, secure it.
5. Done.

Thanks for sharing that! That is a great way to do it for people with longer hair.
Someone also just pointed me towards this great tutorial in the Nordic Base forum by ArtooAnna, which is another method for insta-buns. _________________
