I was indeed surprised that the guy's collection did not include any images of me...
unless my sensors missed it...

Shocked

Yah!

I got out of the house again last night!

I went to the Tinley Park Galaxy to attend a celebration that marked 8 earth years since the manufacture of a sentient known as Michael.

It is always a good day when I can hang out with the Princess and the Savior and so many other members of the Rebel Legion and the Midwest Garrison..

Lord Vader was there....but the small sentients kept him busy signing pieces of paper so I had no worries that he would come and disassemble me...

Lots of activity

There was also a Jawa present...now those guys really make me nervous...

And...of course the Maker was there...can't seem to get anywhere without her tagging along..

Yes R2 you have to watch out for those little Jawas....and those Stormtroopers too.Even though they don't know what they're doing most of the time.Heck they really cant see either.

Glad you had fun again.

Well, I haven't seem to have gotten out of the house much over the last months.

March was a busy month for me as I got to go to the Champaign Galaxy for a "Bowl for Kids Sake".....I am not sure what bowling really is about, but it looked like everyone was having fun tossing heavy spheres at odd shaped wooden targets....
sentients......
they sure have odd ways to amuse themselves...

The Maker is standing here next to me hoping to show off her new costume...of course...she was ignored...it is all about me...
Laughing

I was able to get out of the dwelling again later in March as I went to the Naperville Galaxy for a party that sentients had bid on at the Max Lacewell Gala. I remember Max and am always glad that I was able to meet him.

I assisted in some youngling training

I am here watching over some younglings to make sure no one was cheating at the games they were playing...

But....now for the most exiting news...
the maker is back to working on some of my less than desireable parts.

I have done a lot of missions for a droid. There are many droids that never leave the house, but I do leave the house and each mission can be hard on my parts.

The loading and unloading into the landspeeder is always difficult...many a part has been broken in that process. And then there is the jarring effects of being pushed along many forms of ground surfaces that are anything but droid friendly. And, lastly, there are the curious digits of all those younglings...they do seem to find any weak spots in my construction and manage to pull things off.

Thanks to one of my buddies....a very real looking R2-D2 pictured here with me at the Joliet Library event that I did in June....I have some new parts.

It seems that R2-D2's owner Kevin Glass had some spare resin parts that he either didn't use on R2 or removed and replaced the resin parts with aluminum. Kevin gave the maker those resin parts to use in me and I am ever grateful to them.

The maker is busy removing parts to replace:

and painting some of the new parts...
old parts are on the left...new parts on the right..

the new parts have the base paint...but still need detail put in....since I am not a completely accurate R2-D2, I am sure the maker will take liberties in the paint detail of some of the new pieces...

The maker says that maybe I will get a coat of white paint...some of my seams don't look so good and right now, I am unpainted sintra....so...maybe a nice white paint job will freshen things up quite a bit....

Well, the maker has started to put a few pieces back into me....
adding detail to other parts that are now removed....

and is dry fitting other parts and then removing them before the paint job...

the maker has also started the wet sanding process for the complete white paint job...

while sanding...I heard the Maker say that I was really looking like cr*p and that all of those missions really took thier toll on my body and my parts...

I love my new front vents...the new ones are nice and straight...
one of my old ones was crooked and it drove the maker nuts..

Thank you for stopping by Savior....
it is always good to hear from you....

The maker is making significant progress....
she was even able to remove the trim panels on both of my outer legs that had that kind of funky blue on them..
she sanded them..
and painted them the real Hypo Blue...

I can't wait to go back together again...but the maker is having some paint issues when she did the upper portions of my legs...and she does not know what went wrong...those pieces were wet sanded like all other parts..but the paint is bubbling in places...
she is NOT happy...

The maker also said that when you get back to working on your R2...you can have her sintra skins...it does not appear that she is going to use them...
she says that they are cut for a standard R2 unit...
and as you know so well...
I am anything but standard issue..

Wink

That is awesome news savior....your Astromech and I can hang out...

The maker is heading into the final turn on this re-paint project...
I do give her credit...
she worked on me from Friday night all the way through to Sunday night....there were times, of course, when paint had to be allowed to dry..and she did leave the house for several hours yesterday to celebrate the 50th Birthday of her "baby" sister....
.but in between drying times...there was much detail to work on...new pieces to cut and paint...
and...
well...

lots of sanding...especially my legs which just took on a life of their own as paint continued to bubble in places...that had to dry...be re-sanded and re-painted...would bubble again...and the process would start over....
and over
and over

my legs are finally pretty much bubble free....but the maker is still scratching her head as to why those two particular areas were the only ones that bubbled....

and...yes...she was painting my body parts upstairs in the house as it is too humid to paint outside...now that is dedication...the house stinks...some of the smaller peices were painted in the basement...but my body and legs were painted in the front room.....

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

The maker says that a lot of what is left to do will be the most tedious...

the small things...
things that she has wanted to correct or improve for a very long time...

The progress continues...
I can see re-activation coming closer...

Some of the silver paint detail is going on...the side vents and back vents still ahve to be done...
my coin slots are back on...
and only one of the round ports needs to go back on...

and I do love the new look of my legs....the correct Hypo Blue makes all the difference...

and...
it goes without saying that the new pieces given to the maker from Kevin Glass' R2 D2 are also making all the difference in the world..

The maker does say that after all of this work that she is going to be more careful when using me for missions....
she does not want to go through this again.....she has probably put in around 30 hours on this work already...

Well I got a last minute call to duty this morning and headed for the Chicago galaxy....wow...it sure reminded me of Coruscant!
We went to some place called a television studio....I am not sure what television is....but I think it is something that they use on the planet Earth instead of the holonet...
ancient technology, but all the sentients seemed satisfied with it.

I was assembled for duty in a room with some strange visage of an earthling that didn't strike me as the norm among the sentients of the planet...
everyone was quite giddy to be getting dressed in the same studio where "Bozo" had his "circus"...whatever that is...

I didn't have my head on yet...but here is a photo of me with a large holo of the legendary Bozo

Everyone got REAL excited about these numbered buckets...
another strange earth tradition I guess...

Anyway, we spent our morning on duty in front of the WGN tent where many, many, many sentients stopped by for a photo...and...how embarassing....one of my copper hoses came off of my foot and the maker didn't notice it for probably an hour...

A good time was had by all....but it took the maker quite a bit of time to maneuver in ground traffic to get out of the neighborhood and on to what is called the expressway...
I was not sure why she did not just engage the hyperdrive....

The maker has been hogging the computer lately, so I don't get much computer time of my own.

I finally got out of the dwelling on Saturday and headed to the Algonquin galaxy.

The maker and her team were doing some fundraising for a cause called "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer". Where I am not at all sure about what that is, I do know that the maker said that one of her makers died from breast cancer...

that is all I needed to know..
I sprang into action....
and did some fundraising of my own...

As always, I met a lot of new friends...the younglings always seem excited to see me...but have been told by the older sentients that I am their favorite also.

The team did a great job and raised $279.00
