I really can't help out here since there's some family stuff that I have to do. For those interested, the Chicago Force's Book Club is also meeting at the CyPhan to discuss "Crosscurrent", which I will also be missing. Crying or Very sad

I did offer my services to Cheryl Whitaker for a child's birthday party, but it looks like she has plenty of people!

Marlyn....glad to see that you joined the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team and I really hope you can make it out this year to walk...

As far as the Tusken Village hut...
Ok....
here is the start...

the tent pitched in my front room...

I figure it needs to be raised about 1 1/2 feet
the tent "lifted"

Burlap will need to be at least two layers...I do have some other thin, dark brown fabric that we can back the burlap with...

The top will need to be cut out just at the sleeves for the tent poles so that we can have branches sticking out the top (that will also disguise the tent poles)....the tent poles will need to be in there to retain the shape...

the next bit of business which will require a "build team" will be the hidden structure to lift the tent and a means to insert the poles...
I have an idea utilizing PVC....but would like help in the design and building of that portion while I handle sewing the skin...

the last bit of business would be a "paint" job...probably using the fabric paints...which I can probably handle after all is built...

So....
I was thinking that maybe after the Blood Drive on May 22nd - those interested in this project could come to my house (I live about 6 miles from LifeSource) to take a look at the tent and try to fabricate the lift structure...
Here is the Blood Drive thread...

http://www.midwestgarrison.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11002

If I can get some folks over here...I will get some food...and beer..
wink2

btw...here is some overall measurements...

on the floor the tent is around 5' high...
need to lift at least a foot...

At what will be the top...each side of the tent is 10" at where I plan on cutting out the top...

and it flares out to a bottom length of 90" for each side..

I decided to stay home from the Autism walk because I needed to get some work done on this project...though there is little over a month to go before Cyphan...I also have a crowded schedule..

at any rate..

the current "workshop"

I decided to begin by covering the tent in a brown "skin" first...

then the burlap can be attached to the skin...

at this point...
I need to raise the tent before I can finish the bottom..

The top has been cut out so that tree limbs can be installed to stick out...
I figure I can wrap the tent poles in raffia to disguise them...
and...the hole has to be "cleaned up" with some hemming

To raise the tent...
I have to work with the current tent pole position holders..
which I still need to figure out how to do...
any ideas would be most welcome!!

and god help me..

R2 has decided to assist..

Rolling Eyes

me too. Anyone know how long it takes for tickets to be sent after ordering, or do we not get them until a few days before the event?

So, I'm not sure if I'll have any decent costumes done by then, but I'm going to Cyphan for sure. I'm also confused about the tickets, but I see you're asking, so that's awesome. I'm a bit bummed about the Ball, but oh well (6 months short of being of age).

I'm willing to help out where ever/however it's needed, by the way. Just let me know what's up.

All tickets will be picked up at Cyphan. There will be two tables: pre paid pick up and buy at the door. Tickets are $50 all week end

I think the Imperial Ball age limit is 18 same as the Cantina. I'll check though. The Brown Coat Bash is 21.

If You have Any questions feel free to PM Me.

by the way, "Lucky Lekku" I like that, It's the name of the Gunship in Clone Wars.

There will be a 501st/RL changing & storage room but there will be none of the other benefits to my knowledge.

Several of us will have rooms at the hotel...so if there is something you need to stash...I am sure we can throw it into one of our rooms..

and..
unfortunately...the tusken hut project has been abandoned for now..

several of the plastic tent pole holders broke...
and...
it became a real "fabrication" ordeal..
I got discouraged and put the project on the side..

maybe some other event..

There is a room that will be locked down the hall from the "Fan Room". The RL and the 50st tables will each have a key. The Room is about as big as Bridgeview's room. If I remember right the room next to that will be the volunteer Cyphan room.

Sucks about the tents, Schph.

Hey Augie - did you still want me to help man a booth or is that all worked out now?

Yes, It looks like the Mandos are short handed at their booth. There should be about 4 Mercs going. Novall is sending me a Banner and I'll bring some props with me for the table.

The only members that may get in early are volunteers that are working on setting up booths, panels, etc.
