A request came through the 501st message boards for us to attend Tom's 7th Birthday Party in Lockport IL. Even though this was an early event (4:15 PM) on a Friday, we were able pull it off.

My sincere thanks to Steve Szyndrowski for joining me for this troop.

We put together a little plan for our arrival, I went in first and had the birthday boy help me with a Force push when Steve arrived. We then did the old Jedi mind trick to have Steve join us in a round of "Hot Thermal Detonator" with the boys.

After our game, we took some photos with all the boys and as Steve came out of the Jedi mind trick...he chased me from the room.

My thanks to the family who gave us an over the top generous gift of a check for Make-A-Wish in the amount of $150.00.

I am always a little nervous when I do parties...even though I have done many...because one never knows what to expect. Most of the time I have as much fun at these as the kids and I always enjoy meeting and talking with Star Wars fans. Tom and his Dad are true Star Wars fans....you might have met them at Chicago Comic Con as they were by our table.

Participants:

Steve Szyndrowski –TK 3052
Phyllis Schulte - Schph Gochi TK 1951 - Jedi

Another year of Toy Con is in the history books.
We have appeared at this Con each year since 2004. Proceeds of photos taken with us go to Children's Treasure Chest for Pediatric Oncology, a local grass roots effort (now nation wide) that provides toys to hospitals that specialize in treating children with cancer. The toys are available in the treatment centers at no charge and are intended to provide a distraction for kids going through chemo. In addition to $$ for photos with us, all members are encouraged (and do) to bring toys also.

The economy didn't play nice this year as crowds were decidedly down from previous years. We did, however, raise $100.00 to purchase gift cards for some of the older children serviced by Children's Treasure Chest.

Thanks to all of our participants who came out (in no particular order):

Kris Krajewski - SL 1950 - Darth Vader
Rich Markle - TS 1781 - Snowtrooper
Kathy Van B - TS9989 - Snowtrooper
Rudy Grasha - BH3620 - Boba Fett
Joe Flores - TI 1296 - Tie Pilot
Carrie Dee - IC7898 - Imperial Crew
Phyllis TK 1951 - Miniature Stormtrooper Razz

And the Rebellion:
Samantha Scholl - Snowbunny Padme
Crix - IC 4913 - Jedi (or Obi Wan.... Smile )
Augie - BH9397 - X-Wing Pilot

Cameras weilded by:
Kim Webster

I know that I look forward to this event each year. It is VERY laid back and in between photo ops we always have a good time catching up with all that everyone is doing.

Some more photos:

Since we had no "Big Sexy" to hug the tree...
Augie gave it a shot....

The Rebellion....seems one person short...no pun intended Laughing

This mission report is for Sunday of the event only...
I was not at Legoland on Friday or Saturday..

Last August, the Midwest Garrison and Nar Shaddaa Base were asked by Lucasfilm to support a "Star Wars Weekend" at the Legoland Discovery Center in Woodfield IL. It was a big success and the folks at Legoland began planning the second one immediatly. I was the event co-ordinator for the August event, but passed the torch for this event to someone else.

Costumed members of the Midwest Garrison and Nar Shaddaa Base were on hand Friday, Saturday and Sunday (1-28 thru 1-30-11) to entertain the crowds...and I do mean crowds.

The charitible spin on the weekend was that kids could purchase and make Slave 1 ships and $3 of each one went to Childrens Memoria Hospital.

Rebels present on Sunday were:
AugieWeb-star
Motek1973
Schph Gochi

We also had Rebel Doughboy who is still working on his RFT - he borrowed a spare helmet to appear on Sunday.

A last minute "troop" came up from the Stickney Public Library this past week. They were having a program called "Hidden Star Wars" at the Library and wondered if we could get a few troops out there to lend some atmosphere.

Well, lend we did. We got a great last minute response from our Troops and we ended up with more costumes than I could have hoped for.

I really didn't know what "Hidden Star Wars" meant, but the program turned out to be most interesting, well, at least to me as one who really doesn't view all the commentary on the DVDs when they are released. The speaker covered all 6 movies and revealed some of the hidden easter eggs and also pointed out some subtle moments in the films that had deeper meanings than one might imagine. After the the speaker was done, we did some photos with the people that came to hear the talk.

My very sincere thanks to our participants today:

PARTICIPANTS -

Aimee Jorgensen – Biker Scout - TB 0101
Ed Kryzowski – Tusken –TI 4438
Mark Berry – Boba Fett –BH 4265
Kevin Glass – Stormtrooper – TK 2834
Artoo Gochi - Droid
Thomas Turner – Count Dooku - IC 4913
Mike Riemma – Tie Pilot – TI 1659
Brian Troyan – Biker Scout- TB 8968
Phyllis Schulte-X-Wing Pilot – TK 1951

Costume Support:
Belinda Berry - I can't find Belinda's operating number...

I was expecting to have Crix in his X-Wing Pilot costume and boy...did I get a surprise when he showed up as Count Dooku!

Sigh...that left me and Artoo to defend the Alliance...
but....the Dooku looked fantastic!

Even though the crowd was a little small, a good time was had by all:

finally got a photo of me and Artoo when I am actually wearing a costume that makes sense to be with an Astromech..

Thanks to all of our Rebels who came out for the Naperville St. Patrick's Day Parade (now known as "Windfest") this past Saturday.

Rebels in attendance:

Midichlorian Master
Crix
Golden Dragon
Jack Killian
Zombie Bunny
Whinter Fenlynn (undercover as Biker Scout)
MWG 3-PO (undercover as Tusken Raider)
and
Schph Gochi

Parades around St. Patrick's Day in the Chicago area can always be a test of fortitude. Last year the weather was a little warmer, but it rained, drizzled and misted for most of the morning. This year we had no rain, but it was overcast, cold and WINDY. The wind really cut though the layers that most of Rebels put under their costumes. There was no snow on the ground...but it was indeed "Hoth-like".

I drove my Alliance Red Jeep in the Parade...properly outfitted with its flags...

We had representation from all of our Nar Shaddaa Base Detachments:

the Outlaws:

Crix:

Jack Killian (tongue in cheek wearing his Imperial hat...captured of course):

Golden Dragon:

I represented Renegade Squad:

And..
from Temple of the Howling Moon:

midichlorien master

Jedi Zombie Bunny was also in attendance...but riding in the black Honda and fraternizing with the XO of the Midwest Garrison...lol..
btw ...Janine...did you ever join the KJO and the Temple of the Howling Moon? I didn't see a post from you in this thread:

http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24432&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Even though the weather was rather horrible..
a good time was had by all...

Lets hope for better weather next year!

A copy and past of my Mission Report here at the RL:

Don't adjust your vertical or horizontal...the above photo does indeed contain most of the Nar Shaddaa Base members at C2E2 yesterday.

As a diverse group of costumers, we have members who like to change it up a bit and wear something else...so you will see Imperials and also some Super Heros...
missing from the above photo...
but present were also:

Crix as Count Dooku:

and

Valissa as Darth Maul:

We schmoozed our way through the day from HQ- our booth next to the Midwest Garrison

We had Jedi:

Recruited the Easter Bunny:

Chewie (Bob Kohn) was released to tear the arms off anyone at will:

But Princess Leia (Beret Kohn) convinced Chewie to play nice for the rest of the Con:

Midwest Base XO Augie plays nice with MWG CO Aimee:

The age old confrontation:

Jim (Crocoboxer) from Central Base and I got captured...

but as Rebels always do...
we bounced back...

I got to meet our newest recruit - Private Johnson

CO Beth (Blue) wore her magnificent Zam:

Rebel Doughboy simply can't make up his mind:

And I received a treasure worth a king's ransom..
a thank you from fellow members who made it to CV in costumes I helped them with...I was unable to attend CV...so they made sure I got some neato rememberances...
I thank them from the bottom of my Rebelious heart..

A huge WOW to this event.
The Joliet Public Library's Star Wars Day.
According to the "door monitor" - well over 1,500 people came through the doors...the door counter only clicks for the door opening when someone comes in...and...there were large groups that entered all at one time....so multiply that 1,500 by at least two or three...

Participants:

Rebels in Rebel Costumes:
Pat Phinney - Janqui - Jedi
Jim Norman - Wedge/Snowspeeder Pilot
Schph Gochi - Hoth Trench Trooper
Artoo Gochi - droid

Rebels undercover:
Cheryl Whitaker - TB3127 - Scout
Thomas Turner - IC4913 - Count Dooku
Tom Schaefer- TK118 - Greedo

Midwest Garrison Participants:
Jody McQuarters - DZ6443 - Tusken
Steve Szyndrowski - ID3052 - Imperial Officer
Sean Baumbargner - TK7664 - Shadowtrooper
Javier Esqueda - TK0265 - Stormtrooper
Kevin Glass - TK2834 - Droid wrangling
Bill Ross - TB1335 - Scout
Mike Riemma - TI 1659 - Tie Pilot
Rick Devine - TK6712 - Stormtrooper
Thomas Durbin - TX9293 - Special Ops
Chip Childress - SL9965 - Darth Vader
Ryan Summers - TK2429 - Stormtrooper
Collin McQuarters (Jodys Son) - Tusken
Arturo Delgado - BH0412 - Jango Fett
Mark Berry - BH4265 - Boba Fett
Belinda Berry - Support
Brian Troyan - TB8968 -Scout
Adrianne Bean - TK 4541 Stormtrooper

The Library had a bunch of things for the kids to do...
There was a target shoot range, tattoo parlor (temporary of course), Droid repair shop, Lightsaber training, and several others...
but THE hit of the day was the "Trash Compactor dive" ....kids went into the trash compactor for a set period of time to search for 5 small orange balls that were buried in there...
AWESOME idea...the kids LOVED it....

We had two cans for donations to our annual "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk...it was kind of the "kick off" fundraiser..
and..
the Rebellion won the day edging out the Empire
with the Rebels getting $36.30 in donations to the Empire's $31.45

The Library also had a green screen set up where a professional photographer took photos of all of us (one at a time) in front of the green screen. They had us first just take a photo in costume...then they took a photo of each of us holding a book we brought...
the photos of us reading will be made into posters to hang in the Library to promote reading..

I happened to be in the room at the time Crix was having his photo op...so his photos looked like this:

April 2, 2011 Eagan to Cure MS Fundraiser - Port Washington, WI

Thank You Email received:

Quote:
Beth and Trent,

As part of Egan to Cure MS and on behalf of all the people who enjoyed your presence at the fundraiser yesterday, we would like to thank all of the 501st and Rebel Legion members for so generously sharing your time, talent and dedication to charitable causes. You are all great ambassadors for the 501st and Rebel Legions and the Star Wars community.

We were optimistic that 4 or 5 characters would be able to make the event, but were delighted when 10 of you were willing to travel to Port Washington and spend your Saturday helping us raise money to cure MS. We were able to collect over $140 in the photo donation jar alone and many people said that they came just to see the "Star Wars Guys". We'll let you know the total amount raised by the event once everything is totaled.

People were commenting throughout the day how incredible your costumes were and you could see that the kids, and many of us adults, were awed by the sight of real live Star Wars villains and heroes roaming the gym, cafeteria and halls of our middle school. You helped make the fundraiser a memorable and successful event and we hope the 501st and Rebel Legions will be able to join us again next year to help us raise even more money to Strike Back against multiple sclerosis.

Please pass our thanks along to all of the members who contributed yesterday and we hope you enjoyed yourselves. I've attached a few of the group photos from the event. I'll send more in a separate email so the file size doesn't get too large.

Sincere Thanks,
Keith Biskobing

Participants:
Rebel Legion
Beth Thornton - Princess Leia
John Hartley - Jedi/Plo Koon
David Johnson - RFT

501st
Trent Thornton - Darth Vader
Keri Koceja - Bikerscout
Kristal Brandt - Bikerscout
Cally Merrit - Tusken
Scott Coghlan - Clone
Dan Yach - Royal Guard
Adam Petersen - Shadow Trooper

Members of Nar Shaddaa Base joined members of the Midwest Garrison at Soldier Field for the annual Autism Speaks fundraiser.

Last year we were honored by Autism Speaks at their annual awards banquet for our participation in this event the past several years.

Rebels present in Rebel costumes:

Thomas "Crix" Turner - Jedi
Andrew Marsh - X-Wing Pilot - Outlaw Squadron
Schph Gochi - X-Wing Pilot - Outlaw Squadron

Undercover Rebels:
Robert Hamilton - AT-ST Driver
Whinter Fenlynn - Biker Scout

As always, we were there to give the kids (ok...parents too) a little extra fun as we made our way around Soldier Field (where the Chicago Bears play football)

there was a band

we rocked out:

Yes....da Bears

Sorry...no autographs

Snow cones for everyone!!

Members of the Midwest Garrison and Nar Shaddaa Base were asked to make an appearance for a Plainfield IL School that was doing a fundraiser. They were showing "Star Wars - A New Hope" outdoors behind the school. We were asked to lend a little atmosphere to the festivities and all of the kids were excited to see us. Of course, there were a seemingly endless number of parents who got just as big a kick out of seeing us as the kids.

We mingled with the crowd and took photos before it was dark enough outside to show the film.

Our Host:

Say it isn't so Crix:

A good time was had by all!
