Even when I can't partipate, I love seeing these successful "missions".

Is this the early beginnings of a mobile museum for the Nar Shadda base?

I love the kids with the cubs jerseys next to R2...R2 looks like a Cubbies' fan...but I know he does not have favorite teams...

Love the armband!!! The blood drive is a wonderful idea for volunteering. I am unable to attend, but it looks like it will be a great event for all.

Mission accomplished...this report filed at the RL Mission Reports:

Many of us Nar Shaddaa Base Rebels all went "undercover" yesterday to help the Midwest Garrison in the Legion's Charity Challenge Blood Drive.

Undercover were:

Jim Norman - iam8114 -X-Wing Pilot - undercover in TK
Cheryl Whitaker - Jedi and RFT - undercover in Medic Scout
Thomas "Crix" Turner - X-Wing Pilot & Jedi - undercover in Imperial Crew
Augie Webster - RFT - Undercover in Clone Commando
Phyllis Schulte - RFT,ERS,HRS,Yavin, Jedi - undercover in Imperial Officer

Not Undercover -
Joe Rivera - as Captain Rex

Future Rebel (not 18 yet-accompanied by parent) -
Rebel Doughboy - RFT - undercover in TK

As event co-ordinator...
I filed this report with the 501st..

It is a well known fact that members of the Midwest Garrison and the 501st as a whole, are always willing to open their hearts and wallets when they are asked.

Today, we opened something a little different. We opened a vein and donated blood as part of the current Legionwide Charity Challenge.

Donating blood is truly the gift of life. Blood is not something that can be made in a factory, but only comes from us. Especially with the two recent earthquakes and the summer season (which seems to always demand more blood) upon us, the need has been a little greater.

I contacted LifeSource at the end of March to see if we could sponsor a Blood donation day and they were excited to work with us. Flyers and e-mails were mailed letting Star Wars fans in the South Suburban area know that we would be at their Orland Park facility on May 22, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Huge crowds were not expected as donating blood is probably not on everyone's list of favorite things to do. The day brought a stead stream of donors to the facility and I will always remember the one gentleman who wanted his photo take with R2-D2.

Our donors for today (we made sure they were cheered on)

Rudy Grasha - BH3620 - Boba Fett who did a procedure that is actually like donating two pints of blood as the pint is removed...part of the blood stays removed. The fluids are put back into the person - and then another pint is removed again.

Cherri Krzyzowski - TI 4026 (Tie Pilot)

Jim Norman - TK 8114 - (Stormtrooper)

Thomas Turner - IC 4913 -Imperial Crew

MWG CO Aimee Jorgensen -

River's better half - Alejandra Lule

and myself - Phyllis Schulte - ID 1951

We spent time inside the facility...

and out near the street - hoping to attract a little more attention...

Artoo Gochi met a new friend...

It goes without saying that I wish to give huge thanks to O'Brien Jenkins - Team account manager for LifeSource Chicago - who poses here with Artoo

I gave O'Brien a small certificate of thanks for the advertising and facilities that they shared with us.

All of the other ladies who were working today were saints for putting up with us. Sadly, when I went in to see if any of them would like to take a photo with us as we wrapped up - they were all busy with patients...so...I guess in a way...that is a good thing.

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF OUR PARTICIPANTS!!

Thomas Turner - IC 4913 -Imperial Crew - Donor
Cheryl Whitaker - TB 3127 (Medic Scout)
Aimee Jorgensen - TB 0101 (Scout) - Donor
Kyle Dorethy - TI 4982 (Tie Pilot)
Joe Rivera - CC 3166 (Captain Rex)
Steve Szyndrowski - ID/TK 3052 - Imperial Officer
Jim Norman - TK 8114 - (Stormtrooper) -Donor
Phyllis Schulte -TK/ ID 1951 Imperial Officer- Donor
Rudy Grasha - BH3620 - Boba Fett - Donor - 2 pint procedure
Matt McDonald TK8148 - Stormtrooper
Zach Love - TB 3135 - Biker Scout
Cherri Krzyzowski - TI 4026 (Tie Pilot) - Donor
Ed Krzyzowski - DZ4438 (Tusken Raider)
Augie Webster - CC 9397 - Clone Commando
Alejandra Lule - Donor
Artoo Gochi - Droid
Kevin Skiera - future TK (wearing his just finished TK)
Darcy Jorgensen - future Scout (wearing Scout)
Brendon Grasha - photographer

Remember too that all MWG members can add to our blood counts by making an appointment and donating at ANY facility, wear a 501st T-Shirt and have someone take your photo as you donate.

More photos....
and....I am sure there will be lots more additions to the cache of photos..

This mission report is very difficult to write.

On Sunday the following Nar Shaddaa Base members attended a last minute request from Make A Wish.

Rebels in attendance were:
Bob
Beret
Crix
Whinter
Mark Van Slyke (TB8063)
myself
Artoo

Vincent is a little boy with cancer who was going to be sent to Disney this summer to have his wish granted to meet Yoda and Chewbacca and to battle Darth Vader. Vincent has taken a turn for the worst so the Midwest Garrison was contacted to fulfill his wish at his home near Chicago.

RL and TJA member Whinter Fenlynn is also XO of the MWG and took on the event co-ordinator tasks for this very important mission. Locally, we have no Yoda character...I don't know that anyone does so Tom Kane from the Clone Wars series was contacted about doing a recording. Not only did Mr. Kane make a specific recording just for Vincent and his family, he also sent along his very own Mace Windu lightsaber and many other things from his personal collection. MAW sent along a man to dress as Yoda who did the best he could....coming into the room on his knees to appear shorter.

Bob and Beret were very gracious and come all the way down from WI. Again, due to Vincent's condition, this was all very last minute.

We set up Tom Kane's message to play through the speaker system in my R2, gave Vincent Tom Kane's lightsaber a robe I made, and Beret presented Vincent with a Medal of Yavin made by Bob..
...and all of the other items...

This is a photo of Cheryl and I setting up the recording in R2...you can see the strain of this event on our faces...

Then Yoda came in....Darth Vader came in...
all of us Jedi lit up our sabers but Cheryl announced that Vincent could handle Vader...

Vader was struck down by Vincent from his position on the couch with his parents. Cheryl asked Vincent if he would show Vader mercy...Vincent said no...Cheryl and I escorted Vader out of the room.

Vincent was very tired and wanted to go back to bed.

This was a very difficult troop for us...
I know now what tabards on a Jedi costume are for...
they are for wiping tears and blowing your nose...

Not that anyone would...
but please do not repost this information at any other forum...

a group photo

I will post this in the RL Mission Reports to remind us all what is truly important about our hobby.

that is awesome that r2 was able to do that. And amazing. See having a mp3 player for a voice box isnt such a bad thing. hehehe

Way to go r2.

The new voice system is working out pretty good...
and...
it was actually a happy mistake..
when I finally got the new IPOD shuffle....and got the voice into it....
and then hooked it up...it sounded great...better than it ever did...
and when I looked in there to move it..
I found that I had made a "mistake" and hooked the IPOD straight to the amph instead of from the IPOD to the speaker to the amph...
eliminating the speaker actually made his voice much clearer and I can play it louder without as much distortion..

who knew...

well...
you probably did Darryl..
