I am not too worried about being movie perfect for now..

This is on my long list of things to do. TK-409 has some great ideas and helpful hints on his site www.tk409.com

I built one... but it was huge. I am 5ft 10in tall, and I built this monstrous beast on a dare. I used plywood (never again! big mistake.... huge!) and various other plastic and metal parts.

I actually used one of those cheap "Spy Kids" type of toy camcorders from a local toy store for the "eye". I went to home depot for the hosing and two round greeblies (4in pipe endcaps) for that little power generation thing on the side.

I even had a hidden door so I could stick my hand out (to get a soda, if I needed one). There is a pic of me waving high to the camera.

Like I said, it was done on a whim, a dare, even. I got it completed for the final weekend of the Star Wars Exhibit at OMSI (here in Portland, Oregon).

It made for an interesting troop. That blasted thing was so heavy that my collar bones were bruised (to the bone)!

I've shared pics in the past. But here they are again. The dimension on that thing were (when I was standing upright in it) 6ft tall, 3ft wide (front profile) and 4ft deep (side profile).

Probably not what you were looking for... but, it was a bonafide build for the purpose of trooping an event!

I can be impulsive, reckless and a bit crazy at times..... especially when I have been dared to do something that seems far-fetched, or crazy (within reason, of course)!

There is a Gonk Builders Yahoo Group???

This really shouldn't surprise me, though. I'm going to have to check that out.

Just an FYI, Wal Mart has Black containers, like thoses seen above, for Halloween right now. It seem like whatever store i go to these days, I look for Star Wars-y looking items!

This was my first Gonk droid I did as a lark. Actually walking through Wal-mart late at night with friends. I didn't have a costume at the time and we were discussing what I could make.

I have since updated it twice. The feet were fixed a little and the faceplate is now shaded plexiglass and you have to look to see my face. I trooped many weekends at the Science of Star Wars exhibit in that costume. It is now well-worn, but lasted three years.

I'm now starting my second version. More accurate feet, more fans inside (a must), maybe I'll keep the cupholder I had before, plus just making it more sturdy.

I'll try to start an in-progress thread and take a few pictures.

This one you can see the new faceplate. As well as the love that Gonk Droids get.

I guess the feet on both pictures were the second set of feet I used. The first were just two tupperware bins.
