I can back Jada up here. The Carolina Garrison folks told me months ago that they were told not to coordinate the Rebel end of things, that DK would do that directly with the RL. They were told to be hands-off.

The communication between DK and the 501st was very poor. But, in comparison, it appears the communication with the RL was worse. The Raleigh LEGO store didn't even know I was coming. The list they were given by DK only included the 501st folks. (They were happy to have me; it's just an example of the poor communication between DK and both the stores and the RL).

All of the CG folks at the Raleigh event were surprised to learn we (I) didn't know about the T-shirts. Those were apparently handled so badly that (I heard) that at some stores they didn't know they were for participants and the store raffled them off.

The 501st folks were also told (like us) not to contact the individual store, that DK would do it, and that led to a lot of the problems. Here, the CG folks couldn't get confirmation as late as Wednesday of last week that the store knew we were coming. Because of all the changes and cancellations (that apparently DK told the 501st about and not the RL), they were worried about whether our event was still on. The CG folks couldn't get any word from DK about it, so they ended up having to call the store here in Raleigh directly, despite being told not to do so.

So, as Jada said, the 501st folks never really knew what was going on. And they were told that they weren't to be involved with the coordination with the RL folks. So the blame has to be on DK, I think, not the 501st, because they didn't know what was going on either, didn't know what DK was or wasn't telling us, and were told not to be involved with coordinating the event with the RL.

And, as noted, even the list of cancellations given to the 501st turned out not to be accurate. They didn't know much more than we did. The RL and 501st were both the victims of DK's poor coordination here.

Ken going all the way out to Fayetteville for no event sucks, though, and no matter who is to blame I think we all owe him thanks for going out there and, as has been said, we should try to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen again.

Just goes to show that no matter who says what, someone from the RL or the 501st needs to contact the local store or event coordinator just to make sure so these things don't happen again. That would have cleared up a lot...as Cher did, she sauntered in the day before to check things out and found out the problems and they were able to cover it.

Heck, I'm still miffed that there were no events in SC... Evil or Very Mad

So what Mark is saying in a nutshell is that I'm clueless. Razz

And I do think Ken deserves a lot of recognition for his dedication. There aren't many troops out in his area and he makes a considerable effort to attend functions. This only demonstrates what commitment he has to his love of costuming.

Ken, I hereby award you my Jada award:

Come on, Jada, Mark's not saying that at all.

He's saying that you and everyone else around you is clueless. Razz

I wish I had better artwork for it. Maybe I can get my friend Matt to do something with it and make the heart into a half Rebel bird half whatever that Imperial thing is thus depicting my split personality. Laughing Razz Wink

Maybe I can even have fabric made out of it and outfit Tom Schaffer
and his team for D*Con next year. <-------- serious delusions of granduer

Hello

I will try to make this as painless as possible.

First off, I have expressed my extreme displeasure to the appropriate
people in the way that this was handled and believe me they know it.

Second: what happened to some professional common courtesy, if
someone knew (or had an idea) that this was going to be changed or
cancelled then someone should have gotten hold of me one way or another. I actually called somebody saturday morning and asked if
anything had changed, i was told it was still a go.

This would have been a great example of someone helping someone
else out regardless of what group they are in.

Mark: thanks for the kudos appreciate it
Jada: will be looking for my award...smile
Thank you all for listening to my story, we now return to our regularly
scheduled program.

The Force fights WITH me!!!
