Hey everyone.

Well I finally dipped the toe into the pond so to speak. I was wanting to do a Han and an Xwing costume, but the practical real life stuff called money meant if I went for both, I wouldn't be finished any time soon, so I've put Xwing on the backburner for now and raced on with my Han Costume.

So I'm starting a thread to cover my progress as we go. Photos will be forthcoming once the stuff arrives.

Due to the stupid UK Laws restricting my blaster import options (ie nil pretty much) I managed to source one in the UK and this is a ROTJ DL44 in resin. For £30 ($60) couldn't complain. Its coming in a few pieces in cream so I just need to assemble and paint. I know there are some airsoft options for cheap money from the US. but it's just not worth the chance of PC plod and customs and excise knocking in the door about the imitation firearm you're attempting to import.

So my blaster has also dictated my HAN choice, as I'm aware the blaster changed over the three films.

In time I'd like to do a ANH Han costume because I really prefer the ANH version of the blaster with the long sight and longer barrell but I'll do that a different day.

*update to that* Once I have the blaster in hand which should be in the next day or so, I will be having an attempt to strip it right down back to basic mauser. add a metal rod for the barrell and then scratch build or source the different greeblies, muzzle and scopes needed to make all 3 movie versions. If all goes well then I will attempt to cast these in resin.

Mainstay for the costume will be Costumebase (runs for cover) but I'm not leaving it stock. It will be altered to fit better. Originally I was just going to buy the gunbelt, but when I started doing the math, for an extra £20 + £10 more shipping I was getting a han costume as well, so I thought what the hell.

In time I'm going to do my own gunbelt, but at least if I've got the costumebase one, I've got something to use as a bit of a baseline and a learning experience.

So: the list

Shirt
Pants
Waistcoat
Gunbelt

all got from costumebase. £70

Question. the yellow bloodstripes. Are they embroidered? are they sown directly onto the pants? or are they sown onto a strip of material and then sown onto the pants. I know the stock bloodstripes on this are 'ok' but can be vastly improved. just wonder how much work is involved.

Trouser Belt (just got to snip the middle buckle pin off)

http://www.todaysgentleman.com/StoreFrontProfiles/DeluxeSFItemDetail.aspx?sid=1&sfid=124365&c=130639&i=228965486

(including delivery) £7.50 (gawd, I love the exchange rate right now)

Greeblies for belt pouches

Gonna make my own

Gun
Droid Caller

http://www.doopydoos.com/star-wars-props-and-replicas-31-c.asp

(including delivery) £45

*update* for those interested. this site also does a hollow cast E-11. E-11 conversion pieces if you are considering making your own E-11 from PVC tubing AND a big arse stormtrooper rifle,. oh an a stormtrooper comlink too. worth checking

Boots

http://www.countrysupplies.com/item.asp?i=1869

Not got these yet because I'm not sure on size, but for £30 I can't really go wrong. Has anyone bought these at all? It's just that normally I take a 10-10.5 but my work ankle height boots (altberg and magnums) for some reason I take a 9.

more updates to come.

any possibility for Han's gloves from ANH? I know they're two colour driving gloves but rare to find.

Sounds like you have got most things covered there my friend.
The Costumebase Solo is good, it just needs a few "tweaks" here and there to be more accurate. I bought the same resin kit as you and with a bit of care and imagination it can look brilliant.

There are lot's of helpful posts over on the UK site regarding Han costumes as there are a few of us who have done the Solo project including our XO Steve (jedivamp) who is very knowledgeable on all things Solo.

well I've applied for rebel legion uk forum too. I 'm assuming you have register seperately as my loging for the main rebel legion forum doesn't work on the UK site.

regards the blaster. I've had notification its shipped so hopefully I'll get it in a day or two.

the plan is to go to town on it. I've got a big modelling background so doing it will be a piece of cake. plus I've got the tools I need to detail. as I understand it, the DL44 from that site is the ROTJ one.

would I be correct in thinking I need to add hexagonal bolt heads under the sight mounting?

the onmly thing reference wise I am short on is the greeblies that go in the belt pouches. with some pictures I'll fabricate my own but I'm coming up short on references.

I know corellian exports do some, but they look very basic.

Great news! I'll keep an eye out for your application and activate it later today if I see it come through. I havent seen it yet though...

Try to keep the same username as here so we know who you are, but you'll need a new password as the two boards are seperate Wink

well my costume arrived finally. blaster done but I'm not over the moon with the finish.

the trousers are bloody huge. they are like a tent. easily 38 waist and I'm at best a 34. hence why I'm not standing side on to you all. Proper trouser belt has yet to appear and I'm still working on getting some belt greeblies.

however, this is it thus far.

I got the boots from Robinsons in the UK. $52. size 44
A metal droidcaller from Clothears costumers $70

pictures of my blaster. This is a resin DL44 in cold cast aluminium. I then undercoated in matt black before overspraying in gloss black.

The sight was sprayed with two coats of brass. Everything was then weathered by use of craft knife, sanding paper etc. I think the banged up finish on the sight is good, but I wonder if I've overdone it a bit elsewhere. opinions please.

well I'm picking up my pants from the seamstress tomorrow. UK size 40 is now a UK size 36. elastic has been added to the bottom of the legs so they won't bunch when I put my boots on.

bloodstripes are coming. Once they arrive they'll get attached properly. piccies to follow

http://www.costumecostumecostume.com/patches.htm

The above link (halfway down th page) has both red and yellow bloodstripes available in embroidered style.

I ordered yellow.

I only wish I'd got a group order together as postage for 1 set was $25. yikes. ie the cost of the stripes.

so if anyone orders some more, let me know and I'll paypal you for a set of ANH ones.

bloodstripes arrived yesterday. in clear plastic bag inside a nice solid paper envelope. They are about 30" long so long enough to go down the leg and be hidden by the boot tops but do not go all the way down to the bottom of the leg.

good quality stitching. I know if you google it, Kerezman comes in for some flak over time, but I had good comms and no problems getting them within a week of order.

Will be picking up the completed trousers on tuesday. last thing to sort is the belt greeblies.

Those look so much better than the Bias tape blood stripes. What are the demension on the blood stripes?

Width
Length
Space between each stripe?

I mean if they got that right, those are outstanding.... maybe even too good. The orginal ones where kind of sloppy. Laughing

can';t tell you right now I'm afraid, everything is in the hands of the seamstress but I would say the stripes are

about 1" by 1/4" wide with a 1/8" gap between each stripe. which from what I've read at various places is a match for the originals.

For me, the stripes are a very important part of the costume for Solo. I was really concerned at replacing the costumebase ones as soon as possible.

right guys. sorry this is late but I picked my pants up and went straight to work today and have just got back in.

one photo session in crappy light later and, et voila, my costume sans belt greeblies complete with new bloodstripes and redone blaster.

I stained the grips in brown ink to give them a darker more woody finish. I also went for all the xposed metal bits with brasso to buff them up and they came up fantastic. (not so easy to photo though)

the pants look great as I'm sure you'll agree. it was worth every penny getting the bloodstripes Kerezman in the USA as the bloodstripes for me, are one of the main things to get right on a Han costume. I know its a bit dark and grainy, but you should also see that adding elastic to the bottoms has made them nice and taut and really dealt with all the bunching on the trousers as well.

better pictures to come in a day or two once I get some better light.
