No problem TCW. And that's fine how you're doing it (referring to another forum). People that are interested can find it.

Great pix as always.

New powder coating info at the RPF.

They're just about finished! I should have some completed ones by the weekend, but not all of them. He's putting the channels and threaded knob holes into the bodies as we speak, and then he has to lathe the subtle dome shape onto the larger silver knobs.

These pics show a test body. The milled channels aren't 100% accurate in these shots, but they will be correct on the final pieces (also you can see another channel attempt on the bottom of the saber in these pics too, just ignore).

Here it is with one of RandomSabers' carbon fiber dueling blades:

Okay, The sabers are really actually almost finished for real this time. In fact, I have pics of a finished one to show you. I will have them all by the weekend, and can start shipping the non-powdered coated ones out, and painted ones will probably be ready a week later.

Before I get to the good pictures, here are a few interesting in progress shots:

The control box hole and channels being cut:

The machinist hand turning the saber body on the indexer to get the vertical channel cut around the radius correctly:

The blade retention screw hole (to be hidden by the rubber o-rings):

Bodies all with final milling work:

NOW THE GOOD PHOTOS...finally:

Here are some pictures of the finished saber in both powder coated and non-coated finishes. Hope everyone enjoyed watching the progress of these. I've already started my next project, the AotC Anakin saber.

I bought and assembled one of these for a would-be member, and I think it looks great! I have owned a previous fan-made version and the improvements from that one to this one are immense. The metal parts are spot-on and flawless when the have been polished.

A few tips when assembling the saber:
  • The red stuff around the bars on the bar graph can be sanded off easily. For best results, use a piece of fine-grit sandpaper (400 or higher) that has been glued to a flat piece of plastic or metal.
  • You can replace the red LED with a clear one. Use a pair of pliers and pull the black plastic part real hard and it will come out.
  • The LED is mounted on a spring, so if you are putting electronics inside, then you could use the LED as an activation button by making one of its legs push against a microswitch on the inside.
