I recently bought a RA helmet, and notice that it uses a separate inner mechanism to accomplish this. There is a dome-shaped piece which is glued into the helmet at the top. Then there is a horizontal strip of plastic which acts as the housing for the visor. The top of the visor is riveted to this housing in 4 spots. The housing appears to be rivited to the dome on each end, which then act as pivot points. The visor can be slid up into the helmet a few inches. If you take a look at their kit, you can see what I mean.
Perhaps you can fashion something similar from a plastic bowl that is a similar curve to the inside of your helmet, and then add a strip of plastic as the housing.
