Well....I have finally comitted to start on this....

I have cut out all of the pattern pieces for the jacket-eliminating some of the seams by taping pattern pieces together...
but before I began assembling any of the jacket body I figured I needed to see how miserable the box pleats would be...
I did them single wide...using pins on styrofoam...then masking tape...then sewing...
I had to stop and sew the first 12 inches because I came to the bottom of my piece of styrofoam....so I taped, removed, and stitched..

here is some of the progress photos...

and...

most importantly...

here is a photo of a piece of my flightsuit on top of the jacket fabric...
I think that the fabric that I chose ended up to be a pretty good selection...
as you can see...it has a slight sheen and is lighter than the flightsuit...

Looks good! What fabric did you use for the jacket?

I used this:

http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/catalog_itemdetail.aspx?ItmID=JJJ516

looks like it is sold out...

but you never know...
they may get it in stock again and sometimes I find if I search the stock number it popps up in another place.

The fabric seems like a great find. A pity they ran out of that fabric.
I'm searching for some weeks now and wasn't able to find anything close to it (except finished winter jackets made of some good fabric). But the good thing is I have now enough swatches to make Chewie a patchwork robe. Laughing

I have gotten further...both pleated pieces are done....and the sleeves are attached to the jacket at the shoulder...the next thing is to sew on the pleated pieces....
I have been having lots of computer trouble so I haven't posted those photos yet...

boy...this fabric is miserable to work with....more miserable than sport nylon ...that I can tell you...
one side is more slippery than snot...
and the "wrong side" is actually has very thin "rubber" coating because this is a rainjacket fabric and that side doesn't want to move through the machine at all....which is actually much worse...

Crying or Very sad

I used a fabric like that (sticky on one side, slick on the other) for another costume some time ago, and I used a silicone type of spay on the surface of my machine and it helped it slide through better.

I had to put it on the side for a few weeks..
I am in the process of some overdue home projects..
like painting the kitchen and living room (which is where I work on sewing) and
also a whole house purge that will take weeks..
and I mean purge..

Wink

Actually, I am also selling off some car collector items on e-bay..
then I am putting up for sale some of my Star Wars collection..

my goal is to get my 64 GTO back running again...and that will take some $$..

getting the GTO running is my 60th Birthday present to myself..

Wink

I hear you on putting aside a sewing project to focus on the house. Jason & I have been working on expanding our master bath and closet for almost 3 months now. Everything else seems to get put on hold. Rolling Eyes I'll be SO glad to have a bigger closet and better bathroom though. Smile
