I'm trying to put some finishing touches on an x-wing flak vest, and I need some white leather. I've tried Michaels, Home Depot, and I looked online at Joann Fabrics. Nobody has white.

Does anyone have a good source for small amounts of while sheet leather?

Tandy often sells scrap leather in their stores, cheaply. If they don't have that, buy a hatband or a dog collar, which is just a strip and cut it to fit.
Tandy's "Cova" color is the dye to use for white, I think, it gives more coverage.

What are you using leather on a flak vest for?

I'm using leather for some trim and some tabs on the vest. See here

The darker parts are leather.

Most people don't bother with the leather parts.

Is there nobody that has some spare piece over from making their own flak vest that they can share?

I looked just now and my vest has vinyl tabs.

If that is an option for you, Joanne's Fabric sells that vinyl cut to order.

Mine has leather, purely because my mom found some scrap white leather.

But on another vest that she made (and the ones that may be made in the future) all go vinyl. Much easier to find, and that way you can machine wash your flak vest (washing costumes good!). It looks the same.

Look at my avatar! You think I'm afraid of leather??? Smile

Seriously though, I think I would probably just dry clean it if it had leather on it, but if I can't find white leather, I'll have to go with the vinyl.

I use the vinyl. Unless someone is looking really closely at your underarm area (and they're too close if they are!) you can't really tell. It's easier on my sewing machine and a lot cheaper on the buyer. Smile
