Shocked

The fourth....and hopefully final Yahoo Group....
I have started adding links and tutorials...
where in its very early stages....
at least I have started...
which is often the hardest part...

Good thinking, Phyllis.

Now all we need are some people willing to do the costume. Wink

true..
I don't expect that there will be a whole bunch of people wanting to do the costume...
it isn't that exciting...
but...
maybe once the tutorials are completed...
some old members might say "what the heck"...
and aspiring members might say...
"hey...I can do that"!

Also hoping that some of the R2 Builders might think that it would be a perfect costume for them when they take their R2's to events...
some are already members of either the 501st or the RL...
but many go to events in "plain clothes"...
which is ok too....I mean...most of the fans are looking at the Droids...

Very Happy

yep...
got it...

I am still getting it off the ground as of now...
but wanted to start adding stuff as I went along through the process of making the costume...

it is easier than having to do it all at once....

Cool, Phyllis, you're a costuming machine! Smile

So that's the Rit Taupe dye? I like that color. I think I'd want to let mine fade a bit, before I set the color. When I do mine, I also wanna get some black fabric paint and dirty it up a bit. Like on the knees, sleeves, cuffs...

I would have made both sleeve pockets smaller, I scaled mine down for my smaller arms. Did you go off the X-Wing pocket patterns? Kind of doesn't look like for those, the arm tool pocket should have that slanted bottom edge and the vertical channels.

You didn't do that empty comm pad pocket? Maybe I shouldn't bother with that, either. I probably will though, because I designed a pocket that perfectly uses one of the original coverall chest pockets. Wink

Fortunately, I made templates for all the pockets for a group X-Wing costume project. I do need to make one for the chest pockets, though.

When I trim my helmet, I'm going to leave the raised lip at the edge, I think it'll look good with this style of helmet. I haven't decided if I'm going to paint it, the paint that Sunrider used for our RFT helmets isn't available anymore. Neutral

I'm such a slacker, I haven't felt like doing any costuming stuff for a while, now.

Comm Pad pocket?

Did I miss a pocket?

My eyesight isn't so hot...so sometimes I do miss things because I can't see them.....where is the Comm Pad pocket?

I only saw a pocket with flap on the left arm.....and a pocket with no flap on the right arm...
is there another?

And....yes ....the color is Rit Taupe...
sadly....I think when the color fades...it will fade more to a pink cast rather than just lighten. I did try setting the dye with that product "Retayne"....
but from looking at "out of the way" places in the garmet...and from past
experience with other dyed "browns"...the color brown takes a more "rosy-pink" cast...probably because all brown is made from opposites on the color wheel...

Red + Green = brown
Yellow + Purple = brown
Blue + Orange = brown

each color wheel combination produces a different "type" of brown....
and I think most of the fabric dyes are the red and green type...and that is why when they fade...you can see the red/pink come out as red is a dominant color.

I have the tutorials for the costume just about done....well...
at least the way I interpreted what I saw....
I should be posting them to the Yavin Hangar Yahoo Group by the end of the week....

I do take being XO of the Detachment pretty seriously...
so I wanted to make sure that I knew each of the 4 Trooper cosutmes very well...
this was the last one I needed to do and was what prompted me to finish it.....
Lori ...you know well how long I have been diddling around...I just had to finally get it "out of my hair" and finish....

R2 is the best part of the costume though...I must admit...

Well done Phyllis!

No doubt, like others before it, this costume will refine over time as more research details come to light.

Just goes to prove that even a minor character has some major work involved.

I'm pretty sure I have seen the Pilot type comm pad pocket on some Techs, but not others. And some seem to have the same arm tool pockets as the Pilots, but clearly not the ones in the Tutorial you just posted.

They may have done the first coveralls like the Pilot flight suits, but then decided it would be easier to dispense with the unneeded comm pad pocket and just do a rectangular arm tool pocket without the vertical channels. It would certainly be easier.

It does look like you got the details right based in the screen caps you have.

Instead of figuring out the pocket measurements on your own, just go here, all the pockets but the rectangular arm tool pocket should be the same as the Pilot pockets.

Sorry Phyllis, I guess I thought most people who've been on the boards for a while knew about this costuming reference. Embarassed

But maybe you wouldn't, if you've never been in the Pilot forum. I should have made sure you did.

Actually....I ended up seeing that X-Wing tutorial after I had already finished the pattern for the pockets....so I just went with what I had...
I did post that link at the Yavin Hangar....

I did delete the page about the arm pockets in the tutorial at Yavin Hangar until I can get a better handle on that left arm pocket...

Honestly...
my eyes simply are not picking up the channels...I do see what amounts to maybe a "tack stitch" at the top of the pocket...but don't see the stitch going downward to the bottom of the pocket..

and when I look again at my screen capture...that pocket on the left is also pretty large and goes down to the elbow...
and looks to be square at the bottom...but the detail is really washed out in my screen capture...
so if anyone has a better capture...I am all over it...lol...

again...
my eyesight isn't so hot...
and couple that with a grainy and fuzzy screen capture.....
well...I just can't make it out...

funny...
that was the one element on the costume that I did go back and forth on..
and I wasn't sure I wanted to take for granted that it was the same as either the X-Wing or Imperial Tech suits...

sigh...
too bad there aren't some nice photos of the costume in the "Visual Dictionary" or "Dressing a Galaxy"....lol..
yeah...
right...

you are lucky you can find a grainy screen cap...

Very Happy Very Happy

Quote:
Yavin X-Wing Technician

Required Items:
• Tan or Grey military coverall
• Olive drab, tan or grey belt
• Black boots or black shoes

Optional Items:
• White, hard tech helmet (RFT helmet without the swoop)

Here is what I could find for the standard, although it doesn't appear in the current Rebel Trooper standards.

No where does it say anything about pockets; so technically, without any revisions to the standard, you could have no pockets and it would be correct.
