Well . . . almost Laughing

Working on a Commander Bly. Compliments to Darth Torden (Dan) and Jay for helping me paint/weather and build the Clone Commander, respectively. The armor, belt, and shoes should arrive this week. The visor, double blasters and holsters are in the process of being painted and weathered. I'll continue to post progress pictures as they develop.

Comments and suggestions welcome!

That weathering looks great, Jason. I wish I could do that stuff well.

...so how did you do the weathering? Always good to know which techniques work better and with which materials...

The helmet looks well battle worn - your Bly is gonna be one mean mo-fo!

Thank you for your kind posts!

Darth Torden (Dan) did the painting and weathering for me, hah. He volunteered and I never turn-down some talented help.

But anyways, I primed the helmet with Krylon Fusion satin white and wet sanded it down with 800 grit paper. The yellow is a mixture of school bus yellow (dulpi-paint? cant remember) and caterpillar yellow (krylon). The brown stripe is krylon nutmeg. Toothpaste was used to make the large chips. He sanded down each layer of paint to cut-back on the shine of the paint, so it'd look more dull. Then he continued to sand down areas for battle damage.

The weathering is a wash of black craft paint and water. Allow it to dry, then sand it off with a high-grit paper (800- 1200). Focus the concentration of wash in towards the corners, to take it look a bit more real.

Today, he'll be finishing up the weathering on the back and he'll be adding in other colors as well (browns, yellows, et al).

Here are some updated pictures! Unfortunately, I've mis-placed my digital camera, so I had to take these with the camera phone.

The binocs have finally been attached (thanks to my dremel, bolts and some nuts). I placed the chest armor next to the helmet just for fun Smile More pictures of the complete set of armor will be posted after this weekend.

Wow, that's really looking great. Nice job!

I'd really like to be able to weather fairly well. Unfortunately I can't make a realistic weathering effect to save my life. >>;;

Thank you for the kind words!

Maybe we can get some 327th Star Corps pictures in the near future? I know we have some other 327th in Ohio/Kentucky/Penn area- wouldn't that be sweet?

That would be the bomb!

You don't get to see Bly with a couple of his troops very often. That would be a really cool photo op! We need to keep in touch, especially when there are events near the PA boarder.
