I want to saw Mosi that this is turning out really good. Nice find on the blanket, which gave me an idea. I went and looked at the reference pics on padawan's guide (theres a nice close up shot of the belt and blaster, I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about) and it shows the texture of the cape very nicely. And it struck me that I knew what that texture was. I did some searching and I think I've found a very workable idea for it. here last one down

That one looks really good too. I am just wondering about the price since if you get the twin size it is $60. I think Mosi said the one he got was only $20.

I was looking more for how closely it matched rather than price. that particular one is organic cotton so of course they are going to charge more, but I think knowing what the weave design is called and knowing that there is a really close match out there out weighs price considerations for some people.

Getting close!

I worked all day yesterday on the overlays and they completely kicked my butt. The Timberlands that we bought are simply too thick and not pliable towards the ankle. This created a 'cankle' look where the bottom was actually thicker than the top of the overlay..... looked like crap so I went back to the drawing board with the original pleather boots.

The absolute best solution is to find some side zip boots since they are narrow at the ankle and don't have a whole bunch of extra leather in the shaft that adds bulk. I ended up hacking up the pleather boot a bit and cut a two inch wide section out of the back of the shaft. This cut out a lot of the bulk and I sewed a bit of velcro to the top to keep it closed. With the wrap and the shin guard in place, the boots aren't going anywhere. I was able to salvage the boot detail that I made for the Timberland and transferred it to the older one.

I also had to ditch the vinyl detail at the top since I couldn't get a color to match up right. I still wrapped some leather strips as before, but used the same leather as the overlays and guards.

I still have to dial in the straps a bit so there isn't any velcro showing, and cut a bit of the bottom off the overlay.... almost there!

Also, I was successful with vac pulling the shins so I will be able to at least offer those (covered in leather) for a lot cheaper than the scratch built ones.

I re-did the armbands today and used aircraft grade aluminum this time (.040), which is much sturdier and thicker than the stuff before. The gapping looks worse than it is because of the flash.

Okay, I'm about to make a formal announcement in the for sale area for the shins and overlays. Due to the rules, I can't post the prices publicly so if you aren't an RL member yet, then please send me a PM to get the scoop. Also, if you ARE a member and are interested, it may be a few days before it goes up so if you want to get on a list, let me know. I will also post this on the 501st board.

All of the leather is supple upholstery leather.

Option 1: shins with straps: .. these would come with velcro attached to one end of the straps . The other end needs to be trimmed to your measurement and works much better when you have the pants, boots, and overlay on. As a result, you will either sew or glue the other end on there after they are trimmed. Availability - can be completed in a couple of days unless supplies are on order or need to be made. I have enough for about 5 sets right now.

Option 2: Overlays .. These require measurements and are made to order and I can do 1 - 2 pairs a week depending on how busy my personal life is.

Option 3: The full set... all of the above!

Also, the color of the leather may vary slightly from the above picture. The leather that I will offer will be bone/cream color and matched for whatever option you go with.
