Man... been a bit checking out this thread... didn't even know there was a reply to my helmet.

Why yes... yes it is heavily influenced by the Philippine flag. Wink

Being Filipino-American... (born in Detroit)....I wanted to draw influences from the flag of my heritage...

More info on it plus the costume is found here:
http://imperialroyalarms.com/index.cgi?board=rebellegion&action=display&thread=501&page=1

But definitely... thanks. Smile

It turned into the whole deal....

Here's the design I came up with...

Finding the right person to do it... darthhair of the Rebel Legion... pm me for his contact info...right price...and AWESOME product. Smile
Now the full review of my helmet and costume are here:

Hi everyone,

I've just joined the forum, and have been following this thread for inspiration. I'm ordering my helmet kit today, so thought i'd put up v1 of my design.

It sides on the more traditional side for the design. But i feel its unique...I'd love some feedback. So what do you think?

I think it rocks Biguk - I love seeing everyone's designs on my templetes.

One thing you might want to consider is how dark the rebel bird will be on the dark green. Might be hard to see so you might consider a lighter color or a lighter color stroke on it.

Thanks for the feedback, its still very much work in progress. With the rebel symbol i was going for the subdued look.

It does depend of the shades of green that i can get hold of. As it could vanish, like you say. This is only my starting point so i could look at alternative colours.

Since there are more A-wing helmets popping up, is there any chance to get a template for an A-wing helmet?

I just received my helmet and need to decide on the paint scheme. I want to go with a colour scheme of red/burnt umber and copper, maybe some orange/dark yellows for the details. I wonder if it would be ok to paint most of the helmet in copper so that it looks like it's made out of the metal?

I can try Johanna, but I'll have to find a decent pic to work off of.

As for the copper. I'm not sure, I think it might be better to use the copper as a detail color rather than the base. It shouldn't have too much of a "steampunk" look.

My references were other than steampunk, but I can definitely see how must people would make that connection. Copper on the details, now I just need to figure out the rest.

I tried a metallic paint for a large chunk of my Y wing helmet and it was a disater! I would avoid it for large areas, but for minor details, might be okay. Just my 2 cents.

And hurry on those A wing helmet templates! I have one of those coming in the mail and I need to try out some color schemes! Very Happy

I don't think I ever posted my helmet here.
General Horton Salm was illustrated on the Star Wars wiki all about Y wing pilots.
I liked the character so I went for it.

The weathering on that y-wing helmet is tremendous ... but now your suit looks too clean! Go roll around in the dirt or something! Laughing

Looks great!

this is my BSG inspired ANH Y wing helmet design.

Colors will be darker in keeping with the bomber pilots helmets. Greys, Italian Olive, AfrikaKorps Dark yellow, Dark red, etc. The BSG phoenix on the side will be in Afika Dark Yellow on grey With weathering, only the diehard fan will know what it started out looking like.

Okay, we'll hold you to that! When it comes to logo graphics ... "Don't cross the streams!" Wink

Still a work in progress and I think it's very obvious that I rushed it but... I'm pretty happy with it so far and think it should work just fine once I weather it.

Just curious, why'd you decide to put the "victory v's" on upside down? Never seen someone take it down that road before.

No real reason, I just thought they looked better that way.
