I decided to keep working on more costume parts since my Scarif Marine approval. There are a lot of shared parts with the Scarif Marine Trooper and one of the big ones is the Yavin Trooper, the costume shares the pants, jacket, belt and boots. The addition of a shirt is the one thing I didn't have for this costume so I decided to make my own following the same method that a lot of people use to make a Fleet Trooper shirt.
The first thing you need to do is a find a shirt in a color that you like and buy two of them... You use one of them as the base of the new shirt and the other you cut into parts to create the bib that goes on the front of the shirt.
I wanted a brown shirt and was lucky enough to find two of these in my size at Walmart. These were just $15 each so it wasn't too bad and I love the brown color.
I cut the back out of the sacrificial shirt and I cut the front into two sides and sewed them together to create a rectangle that matched the size of the back. From there it's pretty simple to attach one side to the main shirt body.
Here's a shot of the way I connected the shirt, it's sewn on the right side from top to bottom and I sewed velcro on to hold it closed
If I was better at sewing I'd offer advice but I'm very new at this and it took me quite a few tries to get it right!
I hand sewed a metal hook and loop to the top left corner so that I can open the shirt at the top and have that cool Han Solo flap open if it gets too hot!
Here's the finished shirt, it's a little messy in the pic but you get the idea.
Here's the front view of my submission photo, waiting to hear from the judges.
Now that this one has been submitted I'm also using all of the main parts for a Signals Intelligence Technician submission.
the main difference with this costume is that I'm going to use a different belt from my Scarif Marine and it needs to have the air hose greeblies added to it with loops.
I tried sewing through the PLCE belt with a leather needle but I kept messing up my machine so I resorted to using hot glue but it worked out OK.
Now that the belt is done I can also add a rank badge and submit as a Yavin Operations Officer I believe everything is the same as the Yavin Trooper but with the addition of a rank badge. I had some aluminum stock that I cut down and shined up with varying levels of sandpaper and I cut two small circles out of a piece of green acrylic. I like the way this came out but I realised that the green is for spies so i ordered some red acrylic to make a new one as a general officer and not spy division.

The shirt is pretty good for your second self sewn item. I like that you trying to make all the Rogue One costumes that are possible with your Scarif Marine items. I did it too. I see a couple of things that might be a little speed bump in the road but you are on the right path.
The PLCE belt for the Signals Intelligence Technician (Rogue One) has to be tan, khaki, or coyote brown your belt seems to be olive green.

The rank will not work for the Yavin Operations Officer. It looks like an OT rank. The pip is on top of the metal. For it to be a Rogue One rank badge the pips should be sunken into the metal, not on top of it.
The shirt will need a horizontal seam on the bib about a hand width above the belt for the Yavin Operation Trooper/Officer and Signals Intelligence Technician.

Thanks all.
I just rewatched the movie (again) and I noticed that the rank badges were recessed! I ordered some red acrylic anyway so I'll be making a new one.
Thanks so much for all of the pics Patricia.
I have a much lighter olive belt that reads as khaki that I'm using for my Scarif Marine so I suppose I could use that one. I'd hate to buy yet another belt but I should be able to just recreate the same loops onto that one since you can have them on the Scarif Marine costume and/or take them off of this belt. Sewing that additional seam shouldn't be too hard to do although I'm still struggling with remembering to keep things out from under the presser foot and accidentally sewed things to the back of what I was sewing! lol
I guess the hardest thing to do will be to modify the belt again... if I could find a cheaper alternative for the belt here in the US it'd make things much easier! |

You could modify the belt you are using for your Scarif Marine. The loops for the air hose connectors should not be too difficult to do. Another possibility is making your own PLCE belt replica. It would probably be cheaper than ordering one from the UK. You could buy webbing with the same color but 2 different widths. Then sew the narrower one with small loops onto the wider one. That is what G'nott sH'urr (David Campbell) did, if I am not mistaken, for his Signals Intelligence Technician because he could not find a PLCE belt large enough for him.http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=99748&start=30 _________________ RAID GRRRL-Squad-Leader 2019 - present

I tried to make a new rank badge using aluminum but drilling out the pockets for the pips to sit was tougher then i thought it'd be with my current drill bits. Instead of spending the money to buy different bits I opted to use styrene to make the badge and I'm glad i did. I had picked up some red acrylic from Amazon here https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B089P4YKY6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and I already had plenty of scrap styrene from building R2-D2 and a number of other droid building related projects
I drilled out the cavity for the red pips to sit and left some material at the bottom to hold them, used a dab of CA glue and a drop of hot glue on the back to ensure they hold. I then glued a rare earth magnet to the back and I'll use a magnet or washer inside my shirt/jacket to hold it on.
I'm not sure if there's a tutorial but if not maybe i'll post this in the main forum for anyone looking to make a rank badge |

Your rank badge looks great. You are making good progress with your projects.
Since it is a rank badge for an officer the Rebel Commander forum (GSC) would be the correct home for a tutorial about how to make them. As an officer, I would really appreciate it if you could share your knowledge with us.
