I tried to make my Chinese SKS pouches look dirty. I went with black tea dying because I do not have much experience with weathering and wanted to start with something easy. It is almost not visible on the photo but I can see the difference with the naked eye. The green is now darker and has a little bit of brown in it. The toggle buttons are also darker. They were almost white and now they are somewhere between tan and khaki. Now I why some people's costumes look like they rolled in the dirt for hours when I see them at events. That seems to be the only way to make dirt visible on photos. Light dirt in real life looks like no dirt at all in photos. Confused

pre-machine washed

machine washed twice and-black tea dyeing

post-black tea dyeing

You can dust it with khaki and black from a rattle can.
If you need a source for suitable spraypaints at good prices here in Germany, let me know and I'll provide a link.

It would be very nice of you to provide the links for the spray paints, Thorn_Korrd. I appreciate any help that you could provide.

I have no clue how to do this. I always used yellow and brown chalk on my Jawa and Desert Trooper. I have to redo my Jawa before every event because it is made out of linen and the chalk comes out very easily. The chalk stays a little better on the shoes because I rubbed it deep into the canvas fabric and they do not get washed after every event. I want to do something more permanent for this costume.

This is where I usually order my spraypaints:
https://www.industriefarbe.de/epages/62921996.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62921996/Categories/Tarnfarben__NatoLacke

The paint is engineered to be used on military vehicles and equipment, will hold up really well and is actually matt.
If you were in the States, I'd have recommended Krylon or Rust-O-Leum, but those brands are hard to find in Germany and if you can find them pretty expensive.

If you want to dust the webbing, go over the fabric lightly in short sweeping passes from 50 cm away, then stop, look at the result and give it another go in places you want to dirty up some more.

Hit the chest rig with the black paint on the lower side and if you like very lightly over the rest of the surface.

If my description is too vague, you can box up your gear and the paints and send them my way. I'll do it for you if you want and return it to you.

Thank you very much for your advice and your offer to do the weathering for me, Thorn_Korrd. I think I will try to do it myself. It is something I need to learn if I want to make more Scarif Marines in the future. I am a strong believer in learning by doing. I am probably going to stay on the light side of weathering for these two Marines but I already have plans for more and I will also need to weather my EA/DICE Battlefront II Tatooine Specialist when she is finished.

Ralf was able to darken the pouches a little bit by using the water with brown dye from my EA/DICE Battlefront II Tatooine Specialist.

My friend was finally able to print some items. One comlink and Ralf's anklet greeblies are for our current projects. The ofter items are for other future Scarif Marines. My friend made them because he was not able to print the two goggles for me from the Thingiverse file. I am going to order two goggles from Guillermo. I am also still waiting for my DH-17 to be sent.

My kit for the DH-17 with shoulder stock arrived today. I am still waiting for the 3D printed tactical flashlight I ordered for it six weeks ago. My husband will have to built and paint the DH-17 for me because my wrist is still recovering from the surgery three weeks ago.

The rest of my Rogue One items arrived today.

The goggles are from Guillermo. Two are for me and one is for my husband Ralf. One of my goggles will have yellow lenses and the other will have dark lenses. Ralf has not decided on the color of his goggles yet.

The 3D printed things are from Stefan, a German supplier. The cap radios are very light. I like that a lot. I was worried that they would be heavy and pull the cap down on the left side. The tactical lights are for my NERF and my DH-17 with the shoulder stock. I also had to get a new transmitter for my tan colored pathfinder because the other one was too small for my vest's transmitter pocket. There are some extra items that I will use for other Scarif Marines next year or the year after so stay tuned there is more to come.

I was able to make some progress with my Scarif Marines this week. Ralf removed the excess resin from the goggles and glued on the gray greeblies on the top. I added the yellow window foil, the gray and silver paint, the light brown leather, and the dark brown rubber strap. I am going for the Battlefront Scarif trooper look with the yellow goggles. I am still waiting on the black window foil for the other two goggles to arrive.

I was also able to add knee padding to my Tru-Spec BDU pants today. I first tried to add the Private Kapphel style padding to the blue pants. I did not like the look because the pleats are missing so I decided to make the tan pants of my all tan-colored pathfinder from scratch. I also like the checkboard look of Private Basteren, Corporal Tonc, and Corporal Rostock's knee padding so I added that to my khaki Tru-Spec BDU pants.

I think I have figured out how to make the knee padding pleats. I experimented with a long strip of thin cotton fabric. Now I have to cut out my fabric pieces and try it out with the thicker cotton drill fabric.

Your new knee padding technique looks great! It's an excellent detail and very practical!

Thank you, Sam.

Ralf did some work on his Bistan DH-17 and on my DH-17 with the shoulder stock. I took a photo with both Rogue One DH-17 and a Hasbro DH-17 for size comparison.
