Hello Guys,

First of all, thank you for accepting my request to join the forum. My name is Martin, 33, from Germany.
I am already reading since months in this Forum and got a lot of good help so far for my first Costume (ever).

I hoped that MAYBE I could finish mine without the need to open up the Scarif Rebel Topic Number 1001. But as it turned out- I can't...

Because I guess I already wasted some good money, and now is the time to make tough decisions.
I do not want to dump even more money without ending up with approved Trooper to finally join the German Base.

So maybe I should first tell you what I got already.

So far I received:
-chocolate BDU Pants
-Brown chelsea boots
-BLACK swiss gaiters...
-a tan zip Up Jacket without the stripes (and most likely wont fit anymore cause i am getting more and more like Jabba)
-A really nice coyote Soft cap made by well-known Steven (including a com for it)
- Steven's Belt Buckle
-the fitting british belt
-3 Grenade pouch, polish shoulder bag for detonator charges, as seen with Melshi (kind of)
-Canteen pouch (still need to paint the logo
-Black sniper scarf
-that other screen used rectangular pouch (belgian?)
-a green 1980 Flak-Vest with nothing inside, just two layers of fabric

As you can see, I made some stupid decisions. In addition it turned out that I am pretty bad in sewing. So my plan on dying the Flak Vest, sewing all needed stuff and the Jacket it... a bit out of Range.

I hope it will be enough to do the padding on the pants though.

So now I need answers (like Sheldon Cooper) :-)

I still need to find fitting Goggles, and I thinking about to rebuy Vest and Jacket. What do you think about those two (not the Jeddah one ofc)
https://www.usajacket.com/?s=cassian+andor&post_type=product ?
Vest looks fine to me, only that I would need to cut off the strapping on the back (or hide it).
Not sure about the Jacket though. Especially about the color of the Sleeve stripes.

Maybe anybody already saw the Jacket or knows about it. I know there are better ones, but 200 $ would be still inside my wallet.

I think that would be all that i need in the first place. Ofc stuff like the comm on the jacket, detonators, a hand comm and other 3D printed stuff would still be needed, but at least i could have a "full" and usable costume to join the comic con in ( hopefully) december.

Please help me Rebels, you are my only hope :-(

Hello Martin,

Welcome to the forum. I see that you already have quite a few correct items. We should be able to get you closer to your goal.

Please do not buy the jacket in the link. It is not correct. Most of the wrong things could be hidden by the flak vest if it is worn closed but unfortunately the blood stripes have the wrong color. They should be tan. You can find more accurate jackets for the same amount of money or even less. The blue vest and the jacket on the left photo are approvable and can be bought from many Chinese venders. Here is a link for a vest and jacket that I got from Toda, our former XO.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rogue-One-Star-Wars-Cassian-Andor-Cosplay-Uniform-Vest-Coat-Boots-Shoes/272526727862?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=571607218917&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Could you show us photos of your current jacket and vest? We might be able to salvage what you already have. I am a member of the German Base Yavin. Are you a native German? If yes we can also communicate in German. Where in Germany do you live? We do not have many Scarif Marines at our Base but perhaps one of them is close to you and can help you in person when the corona virus pandemic restriction are loosened or lifted.

I sew a lot and can perhaps give you advice for adding the stripes to your jacket. I added stripes to my jacket and took many photos of the process. It is not too difficult.

The boots and the gaiters should both the same color. They should be either brown or black. So you should either paint the boots black or the gaiters brown whatever is easier for you. Here is a link to great leather paint. https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00KM2Z9PC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can get replicas of the Cebe 15 goggles from Guillermo Carbonell on Facebook. They cost 50 Euros. I have seen photos of the replicas the look good and our member Niall was approved with them as far as I know. You can also print them from a file on thingivers. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4122168

Do you already have the files for the other 3D print items you mentioned? If not they most of them can be found on thingivers too.

I hope that I was able to help a little. Please ask if you have more questions.

Hello Patricia,

I am german indeed and I am from St.ingbert. So in fact not only can we communicate in german but as well in saarländisch :-)

I already feared that the stripes would not fit. Not gonna buy it then. For the vest and the Coat on ebay I will have to see if their sizes fit me. Not sure if they are Jabba like Mr. Green

I think I already had contact with Guillermo, but he only could offer me the pure frame for the goggles. But that could have changed. Asked him almost year ago if I am right.

I do not even have the 3D printer at hand so far :-) But I found most of the files I want on thingiverse indeed.

Thank you for your help so far :-)

Hello Martin,

well, I am not originally from the Saarland. My husband and I moved here 8 years ago. We are from Kreis Kusel but our dialect is pretty much Saarländisch but please do not tell other Pfälzer I said that. Smile

Yes, Chinese clothing items tend to run small. That is the reason I made my own jacket out of two khaki colored Planam work jackets. I am small and very heavy. I would not fit in standard Chinese sizes and I never was lucky with their custom sizes.

Guillermo still sells the frames. Some people just glue dark foil in the area where the lenses should be. The frames are made from resin so they are too hard to wear comfortably on your face. You could ask Niall where he got his lenses from and how he put them in his frame.

I know people in our area that might be able to print items for you. I will talk to them when you are ready to purchase the items.

I did get approved with goggles from Guillermo. Mine were cast with goggles so they were solid and you couldn't see through them, but if you add window tint, they'll look smoky and will work fine. I cut the lenses out and glued in a real set of lenses I was able to get.

I have lots of pictures and sources for things on my thread here http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=112684

I wouldn't paint your boots or gaiters. It won't look right. If your boots are leather and not suede, you can use very fine sandpaper on them, then black shoe polish. It won't be perfectly black, but will look nicely worn.

Also, you can leave the Yugoslavian mess kit pouch green. We found sources where they're worn without the dark dye and the painted icon.

That is your personal opinion. I have the opposite opinion. I used shoe polish and I used leather paint before. I prefer the look of leather paint. Two people two opinions. There is not a right or wrong way to do it. The important thing is that the boots and gaiters are the same color, either black or brown. It is up to him and what he likes best.

Niall is correct about the Yugoslavian mess kit pouch. We found some that were still plain olive in screenshots of the movie and behind the scene material.

Oh well thats good news to hear with the canteen pouch. I am not the super dye Fan. On the other hand I would like to add the Painting.
But as it looks either I will have to dye it blue and can paint the Symbol then, or it has to be completely stock. Mmmh, will have to think about that.

For the goggles I would prefer usable ones. Not that I think I would have to use them, but I like that I COULD use them. We will see.

Biggest Issue still is the Vest an Jacket. After work I will have a look if those ebay one could fit or I will ask them if tailoring for me would be possible and for how much.

As for the shoes I thought about adding the screen accurate cuffs with the additional grenades (or whatever it should be). I think I already saw one topic in this forum where somebody made them on his own. Maybe Amazon can deliver some nice brown leather.

@Patricia: funny , I had my drafting period of 9 months with the Artillery Bataillon there back then :-)
Of course i will tell nobody :-)

Personally, I would leave the Yugoslavian Mess Kit olive green because I looked through my Rogue One screen caps many times and never found one on a Scarif Marine. The only one I found was on the backpack of one of the Two Tubes. The only places I found a colored mess kit is on a screenshot of the Star Wars App and Lt Sefla in the Visual Guide.

I have not worked on the goggles yet so Niall is the better person to ask about that.

You wrote that you already have a tan zip Up Jacket without the stripes and a green 1980 Flak-Vest with nothing inside, just two layers of fabric. If you could take some photos of them we might be able to help you to make them approvable. There is no reason to spend extra money if we can salvage them. I only live about 15 minutes away from St. Ingbert I might be able to help you with the sewing part when the Corona Virus restrictions get lifted.

ScaryGuy added the ankle cuffs and greeblies to his Swiss gaiters. His thread if very informative.

Niall is currently working on updating his boots. His thread is also very good but is not finished yet.

You were stationed at the Unteroffizier-Krüger-Kaserne in Kusel? That is interesting. My husband and I lived in Kusel from 2003 till 2012.

Now that you say it, its really rare to spot the messkit with signs like in the book.

I will do some fotos one i am back at my parents Flat, the Jacket and Vest are still there. I will post them asap.

Will try to find the material for the cuffs so far.

And yes I was in The Uffz-Krüger Kaserne from October 06 till June 07 :-)

I used thin leather from Amazon.de and added a layer "Moosgummi" for strength.
