I would argue that the drape and weight are more important that having the exact same texture. Havibg judged a couple of these on the SG side now, I have noticed that crinkle gauze bears notably less resemblance to the garment we see on screen that some of the textured knits folks have been trying out, as the crinkle gauze is too light-weight, and doesn't take dye well enough to be that deeper saturated black. I would personally recommend leaving the language as-is.

I honestly do not think the costume is crinkle gauze. I believe it is double gauze which is much heavier. Here is a picture of a readily available double gauze versus the movie fabric.

As I said in my last post though, I’m not suggesting that it HAS to be gauze. But the crinkle pattern versus just textured I think is important to note.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), crinkled cotton gauze was posted as the fabric people should use on the Knights of Ren Facebook page so if something different is being suggested by judges, might be a good idea to make a post there letting people know that may not be approved with that if that is the final decision.
For my part, I felt the weight of the shirt in the film is what makes me feel it is NOT cotton gauze. It just lays too heavy for it be gauze. If the shirt was lined then the weight would change but I’m not sure of a good alternate readily accessible.

“Shirt is made with a black fabric with a crinkled texture “ might be a good possible alternate rewording.

Yep! I actually just posted in there today that I would suggest a double gauze. I really do think that will fix the weight issue. It’s what is used in many many Jedi costumes. And readily available in so many places.

But I completely agree with you on that rewording. I don’t at all think it 100% has to be gauze. A natural fabric that looks good with a similar texture seems good to me!

Edit in: this is what I ordered for myself.

I would note, I used the crinkled gauze, however, I lined the entire garment with a thick lining (silk) in order to give it the heavy weight the tunic appears to have.

I do agree, on its own the crinkled gauze is way too thin, but lining it does help a lot.

Do we also have a clear reference of the side splits? I have only seen one picture that shows him full body posted and it is too dark to see if they are there clearly. There was a photo also posted with a rough sketch of where that person thought the seams were but as to an actual shot from the film that clearly shows that, haven’t seen one. Did I miss it?

I haven’t seen anything SUPER clear but watching his fight scene with the knights you can see them flap out when he spins.

I might also suggest adding that the “crinkles” should be vertical in the standard as I’m seeing this confused a lot.

So I've been looking for options for the boots since the movie came out and I've only recieved one suggestion from people which is the Kylo boots from CROWPROPS.com

Does anyone have any other options they know of that would be approved but maybe a little more price-friendly? These are $265 and while I know Ben's costume is already a fairly simple build, I thought I'd reach out one more time before I drop and buy these!

Hey- did you wind up getting these boots? I’m looking now as well, and the only others I have found are some on Etsy. Looks like they’re pricy any way you go.
