Here's my thoughts currently: We don't have a standard for this costume, but have quite a few approved costumes, applied to various detachments.

RLSC refused OT Nien Nunb in 2017 since he doesn't fly a starfighter. He is considered a smuggler per his character description and is therefore Fringe.

SOURCE MATERIAL
Photographic full-body reference is sparse; we have only what we see in Return of the Jedi; I am not aware of any preproduction stills or behind the scenes photos. The best thread compiling screenshot evidence is this one:
http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=101673
It shows detailed bust shots in the Millenium Falcon cockpit, and low-detail full body shots of the front and back from the Home One hangar scene prior to the assault on Endor.

The other sources we have for this is the 2016 Battlefront game from EA which used photogrammetry of the actual costumes. It is an unalterable costume in game with full 3D details which meets RL standards.
https://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/5/4969/NCtAbZ.png (front and back render of 3D model with good lighting)
https://www.ea.com/frostbite/news/photogrammetry-and-star-wars-battlefront (slides 15-21 especially)

The last source I'm considering is action figures. I'm taking the most recent 2012 offering as its details match the EA Battlefront game. The fact that it was released prior to the game but has consistent details shows they likely had access to the costume for reference as well.

SUMMARY OF DETAILS SEEN IN SOURCES
From RotJ, the following details have been pointed out:
* Nien wears a B-Wing flightsuit with a custom vest. With similar quality screenshots as Nien, it has a detailed standard: http://newsite.rebellegion.com/b-wing-pilot-episode-vi/
* Details from the B-Wing standard that are present include: flightsuit, gaiters, jackboots, white belt, and gauntlets.
* Nien's vest ends at belt level; shows two narrow upper pockets with trapezoidal tapered flaps; no back detail is visible.

From EA Battlefront and Hasbro, there is additional detail and some conflicting detail:
* Back of vest has 4 raised rectangular loops between the shoulders; also has a wide rectangular pocket on the mid back with flap closure.
* Gaiters are a dark tan or brown with a strip of fabric vertically on the front center, and a single seam in the back; a horizontal strip of fabric wrapping around the top of the gaiter acts as a cinch with a silver single-prong buckle centered on the front vertical strip of fabric.
* Boots are black hiking boots with black laces.
* EA Battlefront left upper arm has an empty three-channel pilot tool pocket, whereas the action figure has no pocket. These are in contrast to the two-channel two-level pocket described in the B-Wing standard.
* A leather-like belt and low-slung holster is worn on the right hip with no leg strap; belt has a unique horizontal rectangular buckle with an anglular "hourglass" detail. EA Battlefront has a metallic cylindrical greeblie on the left belt.

PROPOSED STANDARD:
The proposed standard will account for the variations in the sources.

Mask:
Accurate Sullustan mask with dark brown leather-appearance flight cap.

Flightsuit:
Chinese red (or similar medium or medium-dark red color) fligthsuit/coveralls with a folding collar.

Small rectangular closure tab at the center of the of the front of the collar, opening on the wearer's left side.

A strip of material covering the chest zipper. This can either be the type of cover that is common on work coveralls or a separate piece of long material stitched onto the chest of the coveralls, the latter of which is more accurate.

Two long rectangular pockets on the upper legs in a similar style to the X-Wing pilot leg pockets but are longer and start roughly at the top of the hips, complete with a rectangular closure flap that fastens down with Velcro. A similar style of pockets without flaps on the lower legs that end roughly three or four inches below the knee are optional.

Rectangular shoulder panels that meet with the edge of the shoulder tuck of the coveralls or are sewn into the shoulder seam, and end roughly and inch away from the collar. The front edge of the panel meets roughly with the bottom of the collar tab, the back edge goes roughly four inches down the back of the shoulders.

Nomex flightsuit style angled chest pocket edges- the full pockets are not required but the pointed edges should be on the coveralls and be visible behind the flak vest. The outer edges of the pockets wrap around the torso and are sewn into the side seam. The bottom edges of the pockets either meet with the waist band or are sewn under it.

No commpad pocket, no pocket on the right arm. If the coveralls have rear pockets and/or leg tool pockets they must be removed. Hip pockets are acceptable if they can not be removed. Any opening on the sides of the suit must be sewn closed.

The flightsuit/coveralls must fit the wearer with the shoulder seams at the shoulders and the waist band at the waist.

Vest:
Black belt-length vest with a narrow patch pocket on each breast. Pockets have trapezoidal flaps. No buttons or closures are visible.

Gloves:
A pair of black gauntlet gloves with flared cuffs. Gloves must be leather or faux leather, rubber or cloth gloves are not acceptable.

No visible straps, clasps, buckles or fasteners on the gloves.

COPILOT VERSION:

Pen Pocket:
Pen pocket on the left upper arm which consists of one large rectangular panel under a shorter, smaller rectangular panel. There is one more panel even shorter (but the same width as the second panel) over this one- three panels total. The smaller panels are divided into two rows of pen pockets by a stitch up the center of them. All sides of the panels have a double row of stitching. Thick reinforced stitching on the center small panel stitch line and the two lines of stitching on either side of the center stitch are optional. The pocket is rotated so that it sits at an angle turning toward the torso.

Vest:
No details are required on the back of the vest. Vest details present in the Smuggler variant are allowed.

Boots:
Black low heel mid-calf boots, such as engineer or Jack boots, that are leather or faux leather. Pull-on style boots are preferred but boots with a black zipper on the inside calf are allowed. Any buckles or straps must be removed or hidden.

Gaiters:
A pair of tan gaiters made of a finely-textured material (canvas, duck, vinyl, leather, etc.). The bottom of the gaiters reach down to touch the top of the foot.

Two folded "ribs" sit vertically on the front of the gaiters with a small bit of space between them (no more than 1/4").

One single seam up the back of the gaiters.

There is a 1" or 3/4" black plastic side-release buckle off to the outside edge of the two front folds, one on each gaiter. The buckles must be on the outside of the legs, not the inside. The buckles are attached by a small piece of black webbing and the end of the webbing should not extended past the lower edge of the buckle.

Strap of the same material as the gaiters that loops around from the front to the back, with the ends of the strap at the back of the gaiter. The ends can either be sewn into the back seam or can be layered over each other on top of the seam. The strap is not tight, it should be a little bit loose and hang slightly in front. There is a squared stitch at the center front of the gaiter. This can be used to fix the strap in place if desired.

The length of the gaiters should stretch roughly from the upper center of the calf down to the top of the foot, allowing it to crease and fold as the wearer walks.

Besides the black side-release buckles mentioned above there should be no other visible buckles or slides on the gaiters.

Belt: (optional)
The belt is made of 2" white webbing. A short section of 2" white webbing is layered over the front center of the belt, around the stomach, with two black triangle safety stitches that point inward.
Belt may optionally contain:
Six flare loops made of 1" white webbing off to the wearer's right side of the belt.
2" black plastic side-release buckle on the back of the belt.

SMUGGLER VERSION:

Vest:
Back of vest has 4 raised rectangular loops between the shoulders, with evenly spaced raised and lowered areas. It also has a wide rectangular pocket on the mid back with flap closure; no closures are visible.

Belt & Holster:
A leather-like belt with low-slung holster worn on the right hip with no leg strap. Unique horizontal rectangular buckle with angular "hourglass" detail. Optional metallic cylindrical greeblie on the left belt.

Boots:
Black hiking boots with black laces.

Gaiters:
Gaiters are a dark tan or brown with a strip of fabric vertically on the front center, and a single seam in the back; a horizontal strip of fabric wrapping around the top of the gaiter acts as a cinch with a silver single-prong buckle centered on the front vertical strip of fabric.

Arm tool pocket (optional):
Left upper arm has an optional empty three-channel pilot tool pocket.

It's from judging the queue. There is a long list of the costume that has been approved in the past, new applications come in fairly often, and it's not the first time people have asked for a standard. Paying it forward Smile

To clarify some of the optional items:

* Back details are optional on the CoPilot version as they are simply not visible in the screenshot evidence, but we don't have clear evidence that there is nothing.
* White Belt: It is barely visible, and there has been discussion in the past whether it is there. http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=71548 I used the standards for a B-Wing belt so that people can do a B-Wing as well, but made the details optional as they are just not visible if someone is only interested in a copilot Nien Nunb.

* The thing in the standards I just proposed that keeps applicants from doing all versions of this costume is the arm tool pocket. It's clearly visible in Battlefront, clearly not present on the action figure, and barely visible in ROTJ. One way to resolve it is to make the pocket optional completely as there is so much variation, but if an applicant installed a pocket they'd be locked into one of the versions.

obviously these are still WIPs. So that I'm pulling images from the right places - is Smuggler the Battlefront version and Copilot the RotJ version?

You are correct. I'll go through in the next little while and add more images to the standards you have separated out.

That sounds great! I'll start looking to see what I can find and I'll tweak the images I've got in there so far so the right images are with the right standards. This will be on my To Do list for the coming week.

About belt.. for the copilot version, I would say there is a white belt, at least in the hangar scene. Based on this capture:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/12FLkKvi1b5u0BtG-hekWuSuZUKGWgMms/view?usp=sharing

So he is using the B wing belt. However is barely seen, so may be ok as optional.
