Hmm, they look more tan on my TV. Is that a high def screen cap blown up?

I don't want to do actual tan , so I'm thinking more of a taupe. Or maybe custom making a beige. I'll probably experiment a bit with some Rit dyes, since those are the kind I know.

I've got my new helmet kit from Jim, and the 1" and 2" OD webbing I need to make the belt. Smile

It's a DVD cap, not HD. Regardless, it's safe to say it's not gray.

sounds good Lori...Taupe sounds like a good selection since I have always thought that the color taupe looked like a gray-ish tan.

my helmet is also on the way...but..
I have a huge amount of non-Star wars projects and volunteering right now so I have not even been able to even get back to the Hoth backpack....I have two Scout pack frames staring at me...
I want to finish the Hoth pack before I start the Rebel Tech stuff.....

Finally decided to get serious about the Tech costume..

ordered the coveralls this morning....

I will be going with white coveralls...
dying them Taupe...
and then using Retayne to stabilize the color..

http://www.dharmatrading.com/info/retayne.html

http://www.ritdye.com/Color+Chart.4.lasso

Dharma does not carry "taupe"...
and since Rit is widely available...
I figure I should go with Rit...

This is also what I'm planning to do, as Phyllis already knows, since we discussed this in PMs. Wink

I've never heard about Retayne though.

Good go know.

I would say that the Retayne is a must.....I found that out the hard way with a Jedi tunic that I dyed ....the dye just kept washing out continually until it didn't even look like the color I originally dyed it.

Someone else told me about the retayne after it was too late....

WOW! That is a GREAT photo....and...I am assuming it was one taken outdoors in natural light...

Where did you find it?

At any rate...
I have determined through e-mailing an extra in "The Empire Strikes Back" that the Hoth Techs did indeed have gray...he would know...he actually wore the jumpsuit...

so since I am making the Hoth Tech anyway...I can use the gray one as either Yavin or Hoth...

I do have the tan one completed...so I figure it was an exercise in trying to position all the pockets correct.....

Very Happy

yeah its a natural lighting photo. its really good to show the differences in the pilot belt and straps also. there is a face book site where people can dump rare star wars photos. I'm digging it back up now, trying to get around my work filter

but this picture also really shows the subtle greyness of the helmets. I've also resently seen a picture of AT-AT helmets and they were also grey. the grey helped the helmets show up white on screen versus reflecting too much light and ruining filming. So they were totally painted grey to film white!

found the site, cant get around the work filter though, but I think this is the link to the start of the photos:

WOW! That certainly is one of the more vivid behind the scenes images I’ve come across. It shows some great detail.
What we wouldn’t give to be standing around having lunch in one of those costumes.

Now I definitely have another costume to work on. I have been thinking one of the quicker costumes to make would be the technician outfits. Jumpsuits from scratch are fairly easy with the proper measurements.

I am not surprised that they are grey from having worked on a movie for the costume dept. and the set decorator. Cinematagraphers hate pure white as it flares so what looks white is generally some version of off white.
