2019/05/04 - Nazareth, PA – Star Wars/Free Comic Book Day @ the Memorial Library of Nazareth & Vicinity (GB)

The scheduled time of the troop was 1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M., but the troopers were suited up and out on the floor at 12:30 thanks to their early arrivals and efficiency. The troop ended around 2:30 P.M., as almost all of the attendees had already left.

This was a fun event geared towards comic book and Star Wars fans of all ages and, because this event was specifically advertised/branded as an event for celebrating comic books and Star Wars, the attendees were very receptive to the troopers in attendance. The library had over 40 titles of comic books to give away (including a Star Wars title), and some attendees were dressed in Star Wars costumes and/or clothing. The event host was very gracious and accommodating. The dressing area, which was located in the basement of the library, was more than spacious enough and it was very clean and had a trash can. A clean restroom was close to the dressing area. Water was provided, and troopers had the opportunity to obtain lunch from the food vendors free of charge. There were three troopers in attendance, and they took turns patrolling the two floors of the library and the outside of the building where the food vendors and face painter were. Photos were taken with fans both inside and outside the library. A lot of children were made very happy, especially the little boy dressed like Darth Vader who kept singing, “Jawa, Jawa.......” every time he saw the Jawa. Teebo the Ewok was a huge hit for photo opportunities, and the X-Wing Pilot was there to keep the Jawa and Teebo in line. There were only two “negative” issues with this troop. First, the dressing area was described as “blocked off to the public” as the basement was not being used as a “public” part of the library, but any individual could easily access the basement by riding the elevator to the basement, either accidentally or intentionally. (There was an employee down in the basement doing paperwork most of the time, but she was not there the entire time and she was the only employee in the basement when she was there. She was not there when we started the troop, but she arrived there sometime within the first hour of the troop. I do not know how long the basement was left unattended between the time our troop began and the time of her arrival.) The second issue is based largely on my opinion: The event began at 10:00 A.M. but the troop was not scheduled to start until 1:00 P.M. The crowd had already significantly dwindled when the troop began. I was informed by the host that the gentleman who had been running a video game trailer had really wanted to take photos with us, but he was already packing up the trailer and leaving when we got there. I feel if we had been scheduled to be there when the event began we could have made more of an impact. However, the staff enjoyed our visit and indicated that they hope to have us there again in the future. Overall, this troop was a smashing success.

In attendance were:

Doug Hutnik – Teebo the Ewok
Stephanie Jamiolkoswki – X-Wing Pilot
Lorelei Whitlock – Jawa
Rich Hutnik - Squire
