I’m wondering about how far off would I be from getting this approved? It is a costume that my mom had commissioned when Episode III came out, and I’m wondering what I would need to do to modify it to fit RL standards. I will get more photos when I get home.

Unfortunately, I think the crushed velvet means that it can't be approved, but the lines are gorgeous, so you could probably take it apart and use it as a pattern for a new one.

Hello. Smile

It looks good, but there are some things I can see will need attention. As Jenna said, the panne velvet won't be approvable.

I'm not sure if it's big enough for a large hoop skirt and petticoot, which you'll need to get the necessary volume. So before you try and use this a pattern, make sure it has the right dimensions.

The sleeves are, unfortunately, the wrong shape for this dress, so can't be used as a pattern. Those will have to be repatterned. I'd also suggest raising them a tad, so the seamline is right at the edge of the shoulder. (It could just be the panne velvet stretching though. But check it before reusing a pattern or making a new one).

Hood pattern might be good. I've only seen your hood from the front, so can't say for sure, but I think it's pretty close. Might need a little more volume. (??)

Brooch looks to have the right dimensions. Can't really say if it's close enough by these pictures, but it might be.

The sash looks a bit too shiny. But maybe you can use the reverse side of the fabric and reuse it that way? Or you can get some new fabric for it. Make sure to tack down the criss crossing pleats in different places so they stay put. Smile

And of course, you'll need the symbols all over the gown, hood, and sleeves.

I think the hardest part about this gown is not the etching of the symbols; it will take time, but is doable. It is probably sourcing the lining for the sleeves. I've found the combination of green and purple is an unusual one, and diamond piper weave/print is even more unusual, so it can be hard to find.
For the etching rayon-silk velvet will be your easiest choice (what was used in the movie), although it won't be cheap.

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask them; we are here to help. Smile

We have a gallery here, where you can see reference pictures of this costume: http://www.senate.rebellegion.com/?portfolio=padme-amidala-revenge-of-the-sith-olive-gown
