Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I won't be doing Hoth after all. I can't afford 2 flak vests! Wait a minute.....I can use jewelry pins [like those used in military ribbons and lapel pins] JB welded to snap tops for this and then pin them right through the vest. Then I can remove them for normal pilot use....Heh Heh! _________________ Zhi-don Aquintas

Only Luke's flak vest had insertion locks on the shoulder straps ... and even then, they were not there in every shot!
Edit: On closer inspection, I see that they are hooks - of the same type that holds his lightsaber in his belt./Edit
Another thing I noticed is that the ejection straps go under the jacket. Many ANH/ROTJ pilots in the Legion have the straps attached to the inside of the flak vest. If you want to use the same costume for both ANH, ESB and ROTJ, then you would have to attach the straps to the flight suit somehow.
For making my jacket, I have the choice of a fabric that is slightly yellower than my flight suit, and a fabric that is slightly redder than my flight suit. Which one would be more accurate?
Edit: I found a picture that provided the answer. The jacket is made of a slightly more yellow fabric than the flight suit. However, the difference is not much.
While the fabric for the flight suit has been proven to be a light twill of some kind, I think the jacket is most likely sewn from wind-poplin.
I think the ribs along the arms are box pleats, and not quilted like on the jacket that Luke wore in the ceremony./Edit. |
