Thank you.
I made a mock-up of the holster this afternoon. I used the stiffest fabric that I had, which was a pair of old welding pants my husband used to wear at work, and it still looks like a blaster sock. The canvas from the bag that I am going to take apart is a little bit stiffer but I do not think that is will help much.

You are right, it does look similar to the source, but I still think it looks like a blaster sock.  I am pretty sure that it is supposed to some sort of canvas holster. I hope that the finished canvas version will look as good as the webley-holster you posted.
I finished the prototype of my husband's gaiters. They are made of grey lightweight cotton twill that was left from my RFT pants. On the inside, I have a layer of iron-on lining and thick black cotton twill that was left from my officer costume. I made a grey strap instead of a tan one because I do not have any tan fabric at the moment. I still do not understand why the CS calls for a tan strap when the Hasbro figure has a grey strap. It must have slipped in from one of the other two versions of the vanguard.

The gaiter-prototype was a little bit too narrow at the bottom. My husband could not push them far enough up to tie his boot laces. I will have to correct that on my pattern.
I bought the fabric for the gaiters today. I think I might be able to finish my husband's vanguard the text weekend and mine one or two weeks later.

I finished my husband's holster this morning. It looks and feels a lot better than I thought it would. I used two layers of iron-on interfacing to make the front part stiffer. I layer is ironed on to the canvas and the second layer is ironed onto a thin piece of fabric that I added to protect the iron-on interfacing from the movement of the Hasbro DH-17 when it is in the holster.

I finished my husband's gaiters today. His costume is now complete. I think we will be able to take application photos in the next couple of days. I hope his costume will be approved by LuxCon, which is on April 13th and 14th. He really does not like the jackboots of his RFT and I want him to be comfortable in his costume. He also does not like the antenna and the boxes but the boots give him the most trouble. He cannot wait to be able to walk around in his comfortable combat boots.

I cut the canvas for the second holster and the fusible interfacing for my gaiters this morning. I hope to take my husband's photos this afternoon or tomorrow. We probably have to take them indoors because it is raining. I would prefer natural light because the flash on my old digital camera is not very good, but it will have to be enough.
