I was curious, If I were to add the hat, goggles, and bandolier would a Crait pilot/infantry trooper be admissible to RAID?

I will probably get shot down on this, but to my way of thinking-

"Fleet does the flyin'
MI does the dyin" (different universe but same idea)

Even a dismounted pilot is still a pilot. VN helicopter pilots typically carried at least two and often three weapons in case they got shot down. In Hugh Mllls book he describes the rifle and two pistols he carried. He was shot down four times over the same crossroads trolling for enemy fire so the infantry and attack helicopters could find them.

I still think that would stay as a pilot.

Well, the way it usually works in the Rebel Legion is what does the costume appear to look more like in the movies, and that's usually what decides what category the costume falls under. For example, Hera in her standard gear is Fringe because that's what her costume looks like, but once she puts on the helmet she becomes a pilot, as she's now more recognizable as a pilot.

I've always felt that for this TLJ costume it was definitely intended to be depicted as a trooper, not a pilot, so it should fall under RAID. The costume is clearly not intended to be shown as a pilot, he's a trooper, and has trooper gear. Rebel/Resistance pilots don't wear bandoliers, carry rifles, or wear caps and goggles, troopers do. He also has on more trooper-related gear than pilot-related gear. In the movie he is also depicted solely as a trooper fighting on the ground, not piloting a starship.

There's another guy in TLJ who has most of the same gear but a different bandolier, and he's down in the trenches with various infantry around him, and in one of the books (the TLJ Guide, I think?) refers to them as troopers, if I remember right.

imagine the can of worms its going to open if this costume falls to RAID, someone gets pilot gear that would pass per RAID judges since most RAID Judges are not Pilot judges, and then the person takes the approved Pilot parts and tries to apply as a pilot and it gets shot down for not being up to pilot spec.

That already happens with other costumes and it doesn't seem to be too much of an issue. Nien Nunb (ROTJ) and Willrow Hood, to name a couple.

And the pretty easy fix for that, anyway, is to just follow the pilot standards for the suit. I could write up a set of standards if desired-- I already did it for the pilot version, it would be easy to whip a set up for the trooper version. But after being a pilot costume judge for many years, and RLSCO XO for two years, from all of my experiences there's just not enough about this costume that would qualify it as a pilot. It's as much of a pilot as Willrow Hood is. Smile

And I think that part of the fun of this costume is that it's a trooper, not really a pilot. It gives people something a little different to wear, and something to have fun with in two different detachments. And it gives RAID more members.

But yeah, if it would help I'm more than happy to write up some standards. And if any of these costumes are submitted, I'd be happy to answer any questions a trooper judge might have regarding the suit. I know pilot costumes like the back of my hand (and I'm also trying to get into RAID costumes) and I'm always glad to help out in any way that I can!

In my opinion, this costume does not belong to RAID it belongs to RLSC. Most of the costume components are regular resistance X-Wing pilot items. They are more difficult to get right than the few things that are items from the resistance troopers. Another thing to keep in mind is, that a pilot does not become an infantry soldier just because his fighter got shot to pieces on the Mothership. The two pilots only join the ground forces on Crait because everybody has to fight and there are probably not enough V-4X-D ski speeders left. Of course, it makes no sense to have them play foot soldier when Rose and Fin get to fly. It should be the other way around, but I guess it fits the narrative of The Last Jedi.
