Tips on organizing your Base/Outpost Reports:

1) Before the event, organize a list of who is expected, what costumes they expect to be wearing, and any family/friends that are expected.

2) During the event take note of all members present or helping with the activities. Having a print of the sign-up list can be very helpful with this. You’ll also have a place to put any notes about the event.

3) As soon as you can, start writing up your report. The fresher your memories, the less you’ll forget. Use a text editing program, like Microsoft Word, to help. You can save your work as you go, and gramer/spell check everything before posting to the forums.

4) Don’t rush to publish something. It’s OK to wait a few days to gather photos, totals, and other comments from members, to be included in your official report.

5) Keep copies of photos on your computer. Links can quickly become obsolete. Having organized folders, with copies will help if photos are needed in the future.

6) In the Missions Reports forum, organize your reports by: Base/Outpost – Event name
This way everyone reading will at least know which unit the report is from. Keep in mind… you may not be the only unit marching in a St. Patrick’s Day parade that year.

7) In your units’ forum, have one thread for each year’s worth of reports, with a link back to the finished report. That way anyone visiting your Base forum can see the fun you’ve been having., but not be overwhelmed with pages and pages of things.

When writing a Mission Report, keep in mind these details:

• What was the event?
• Where was the event?
• When was the event?
• Was this the first time the group has participated in this event?
• Were any charities involved?
• Were donations raised for a charity, how much, how?
• Did you do any special activities? (i.e. face painting, tattoos, special photo ops, raffles, ect.)
• Did you work with any of the other fan groups, or local organizations?
• Do you have any feedback or thank you from the organizers you can quote?
• Was there media coverage of the event, did any members get a chance to be featured in that coverage?
• The members, friends, and family who participated. Be sure to include everyone’s full name and Legion name. (Were any of them new members or brought a new costume?)
• Links to members online photo albums (remember to give their name, so credit can be given).
• Submit your report to Comlink and/or Bantha Tracks!

To submit to Comlink (the Legion Newsletter):
• Please select two or three photos to showcase that day’s activity. (Fun/ candid photos are encouraged!)
• E-mail the best, highest quality .jpg photos you have.
• If you’re not the photographer, please ask for permission and include the name of the photographer.
• Include the names of everyone in the photo(s).
• If there are online photo albums available include links to those at the bottom.
• Include your name, Rebel Legion name, and e-mail address.
• E-mail everything to the Legion Public Relations Officer: LPRO@rebellegion.com
• Attached Word documents are great! A long e-mail is fine. Smile

To submit to Bantha Tracks (Star Wars Insider magazine and online content):
• e-mail everything to Mary Franklin: banthatracks@starwars.com
• Remember, she can’t look at dozens of photos, so be sure to attach two or three for her to use. And she doesn’t know who anyone is so be sure to include the names of everyone in the photos, as well as the photographer’s name. Wink

Thanks for posting this, Dee. I'm sure it will be helpful, especially for those posting Mission Reports for the first time.

Very Happy

I have one suggestion for submitting photos to Bantha Tracks. If you are linking to an online photo album picture, I'd highly suggest giving Mary a direct link to the highest resolution image, which is really what needs to be used in print publications.

I think Mary quickly downloads whatever you give her, and she doesn't always have time to check to see if there is a higher res image. I've noticed some pretty compressed looking pictures in the most recent issue of the magazine that don't look as crisp and sharp as they should in print (i.e. I can tell she used a web res version of one of my photos rather than the full "original" resolution which would be ideal for print). Wink Just a live and learn sort of thing.

Are mission reports mandatory? What do you think about BCO/OCO who do not post mission reports?

There is nothing in the charter saying that mission reports are mandatory, although they are helpful and nice to have.

As a matter of course, I think that Mission Reports are vital and they should be mandatory. It's a clear way to show Base/Outpost activity and a way to keep track of member attendance. This helps with the annual census.

I'm a bit disappointed in BCOs/OCOs who don't post Mission Reports. On the one hand, they're depriving the rest of the Rebel Legion the opportunity to see what their local units are up to. And on the other, not posting Mission Reports enables a CO to play with their membership numbers when the census comes around. It's pretty easy to claim a Base or Outpost has X number of active members even if a few of them haven't attended an event in more than a year. Properly posted Mission Reports are a way to keep COs honest.

RL Nusantara Outpost (RLNO) had its first official troop for 2018 on 10 Feb 2018; starting 10am to 1:30pm

In cooperation with the Yayasan Onkologi Anak Indonesia ( http://www.yoaifoundation.org/ ), and donations from Mitra Adi Perkasa and Wings Group, RLNO was able to bring some cheer to approx 30 children afflicted with different (stages of) cancers.

The venue was the children's cancer ward at the Rumah Sakit Kanker Dharmais (Dharmais Cancer Hospital - a government hospital) located in Jakarta, Indonesia. For more info, goto http://dharmais.co.id/

Present were six troopers, Kevin Soeharli (CO), Dennis Valencia (XO), Gerry Guzman and Vince Chacon (Rebel Pilots), and two RL Candidates Julian Widjaja and Audevian Monda
