I have just started my build for Jedi Rey, so I figured I would start a WIP.

So far I have my boots and pants done.

Here is how they started:

I removed the top part and the straps to make a spat and I also shortened the boot by about 1 1/2 inches.

And here is the finished boot:

I don’t have any pictures of my finished pants yet (I will take some and post them as soon as I can). I used theses pants as a base (2 sizes too big so they wouldn’t be skin tight):

Here are my pants. I still have to give them a tea batch, so this isn’t the final color.

Do you have any pics of the in between stages of the boots?

Did you buy two pair to scavenge to make the spats? I'm not seeing how the top of the boot could have provided all you needed for that? What am I missing?

The top of the boot was double layered, so there was plenty of material for the spat.

If you look at the picture of all the pieces removed, the top 2 are the layers of the top of the boot. You have to rip out the seam along the top curved part and down the sides.

You put right sides together and sew the straighter edge. This will be the center seam of your spat.

Here are my pieces clipped together (no pins for pleather or leather).

I hope this makes things clearer.

I also redid my pants, so I should post those updated photos!

Good deal. Thank you. That's what I figured (after I posted), but it just didn't seem like the tops would have enough material, even double layered. Looks like they do. Excellent! I have those same boots in my eBay cart. Have for a bit now. Guess I'll pull the trigger and buy them.

Did you attach the spat or do you just tie it on each time?

Thanks for the help. You rock!

I glued the spat on with leather glue. I ended up just gluing it over the zipper since I am still able to pull them on. If you need to unzip them, then you can just glue it just in front of it, but you might not want the spat to come down so far over the zip at the bottom.

Excellent! Thank you. I doubt I'll be able to get them on unzipped, but who knows? And like you said, you can save the zip if you need to. Sweet. Thank you. You've been a big help. Going to buy the boots now and see what I can do. Good luck on the rest of your costume. You look great so far!

Some more updates.

I fixed the seems below the knees on my pants so they are more flat felled than pin tuck

Cut and hemmed my tabards/ wrap dress (I still need to cut them to the exact length). And my obi just needs some fasteners.

I started my tunic.

I also did my bracer a while back.

The only piece I haven’t started on is the belt.

I am hoping to get this done in time for WonderCon in 3 weeks.

Tunic is finished except the closures - same with the obi. The tabards need to be cut to the correct length.

Tunic is made from the SA fabric from Mood and lined with cotton in a similar color. The lining also has facing of the main fabric along the edges.

The obi is a polyester fabric that has a subtle pattern for texture. It was made using the self scrunching obi tutorial found on this site.

Tabards/wraps are the YaYa grey gauze fabric from Joann’s. One long piece was cut in half length wise - there are no seams - and the raw edges finished with a small rolled hem.

Then I need to do the belt!

This is looking really nice! You did an incredible job on those boots, especially. Let us know if you have any questions as you finish up. Looks like you're close to being done!

Home stretch! As is, the costume is wearable, but I still want to add snaps to secure the tabards to my shoulders. I still also need to glue and trim my twine on the belt.

Weathered arm wraps!

I tea stained my pants, but they aren’t dry yet.

I need to trim the lace on my wig, but it is styled.

I hope to take submission pictures tomorrow.
