Putting this kit together one piece at a time! Love the character that Rex has always been, but Rebels has made him "age and weight appropriate" for me, so to speak!

Reference shots:

Sourcing the parts: For this I asked Kevin Weir for a hybrid kit. He put all the plastic parts together for me (he can be contacted through "Imperial Surplus" or via Facebook at "KWDesigns)." The pants are grey baseball pants, tailored to size, with knee pads sewn together and attached. Note that a helmet is not required (hard to approve too, as the Old Rex helmet is a mixture of two different helmets that you'd have to piece together, and then add parts to for the Rebels look. I made one, but I walk with it as an accessory mostly.

Getting the pieces together:

The backplate buttons are designed to be "animated" looking. They are literally are made of painted wooden shapes from Michael's, lol!

The top strap was simply made of sintra:

The weld marks are important. These are copied from looking at a ton of shots from the show. A mixture of white and blue and rust (not what we'd consider "realistic" welds, but remember, this is an animated character)!

This is also important, and held up my approval to the RL until I modified it: the belt buckle needs to pop out a bit, thanks to it being drawn that way in a few scenes.

Mostly finished, shown here at SWCO2017 and a few troops in 2017.

Last thing for now: Announced at Star Wars Orlando, Rex in Season 4 may be linked with that fan idea that he was also on Endor. This may be an option for folks wanting to do Rebels Rex very soon:

I am getting ready to start my old man Rex build and have Kevin’s Armor as well. I would love to see your pics but alas photobucket strikes again. Is it possible for you to share them on another site?

Thanks in advance.

Hey, good luck on your build!! I have an updated thread on the clone trooper detachment site, and a full album is on my FB page (Brent Rudmann). Happy to connect from there as well! I’ll update this thread eventually, just have to find the time!

Want to see the inspiration for all my Rex stuff? Check out John Farmer on Instagram (oldmanrex) and the various forums. His work is inspiring, I mean, the guy basically IS Rex! I got to meet him at the Hollywood Parade a bit ago, what a cool dude!

About the helmet: As noted above, to make an approvable helmet, two different helmets would have to be pieced together, which would be fun, but expensive. I had this helmet, so I modded it as an accessory (not for approval).

What shoes did you end up using? I was just going to use my Rogue One Tank Commander boots and add the armor piece on the top of them.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Hello! Thanks to the lack of notification of replies in this forum, I totally missed your question from LAST YEAR!! Anyway, I used Hunter Bay's Eastborough Slip-On shoes. About $29.00.
