Boots - Ordered
Fabric (Cherry) - Check
Helmet - Check
Chest box - Test print came out great
I found the complete list of paints needed for the chest box, and shared with Siouxzn. Original hose is a British radiator hose with a 20mm ID. Ordering from the UK will be pricey. http://hoseworld.com/acatalog/UNREINFORCED_CORRUGATED_RUBBER_RADIATOR_HOSE.html

I will start disassembly of my helmet and test a base coat for color over the next week. I may have a spool of wire to donate for everyone's modifications.

A Legion member makes lighter, cheaper replicas. I bet we could save on shipping if we order all of them at once.

Yes he did! I was just trying to find out if there was equivalent paint that could be used in an air gun..

But, I might be making this too complicated.. so here is Chris's list: (Thank you!!)

Chest Box Paint colors

Here’s the color breakdown…

Main box – Azure Snow (with channels masked)

Center box – Anodized Bronze

Large Square buttons (2x) for center box – Krylon White

Rectangular buttons (4x) for upper right (2 with divets) – Smoke Grey

Medium Square buttons (2x) for upper left – Pool blue (mix pool blue with white acrylic paint till color desired and test before painting) Feel free to substitute if you find a single color you like for this.

Circular button for center box – Krylon aluminum metallic

The primers were:
Dupli-Color automotive Grey filler primer
Rust-Oleum High Heat Gray Primer

The paints:
Valspar Gloss Azure Snow
Rust-Oleum Anodized Bronze
Rust-Oleum Smoke Grey
Krylon Semi-gloss white
Krylon Cover Maxx Aluminum/Metallic
Apple Barrel Pool Blue acrylic paint (mixed down with a bit of white acrylic)

The weathering was with Citadel’s Shade Nuln Oil

Great find! Sifting through all the forums is wayyyy too much fun! Of course, I'm in on a bulk order when we are ready!

Side note, I messaged this member to find out about a group order.

I received word back, for 14 or more hoses, we would just add $2 to the cost. Puts it at $32 each.

Torrey, I'm glad it came out in the wash okay! A little softer is perfect, and that's a great tip to finish the edges first. Is it bad enough of a ravel that we need to have those who don't have sergers/sewing machines who have bought fabric to meet up with someone with a machine to finish their edges before washing, or is it not that critical?

Chris, that's a fantastic find! They'll come out to about $1 per person, that's awesome! Do we want to go with AA or AAA batteries? The AAA box looks smaller and would be easier to hide I'm thinking.

Susan, what's the total cost for all of that paint?

Here's more good news. Danny worked out a method for the entire belt and harness for $58.28 That includes all of the strapping and paddles, so it all comes out in the wash and our cost has remained pretty much the same!

Danny, correct me if I'm wrong but that number doesn't include the webbing around the legs (about $2 from strapworks http://www.strapworks.com/Polyester_Webbing_p/pewsc1.htm) or the hardware bit on that (http://www.strapworks.com/Metal_Slides_p/ms-c.htm also about $2 for two + shipping)

I also found the flat hook on strap works for $3.50, we'll need two each. http://www.strapworks.com/Flat_Hook_p/ssfh.htm

The slide buckles will be about $1 per person: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018YWDZCK/ref=twister_B018YWDV7E?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

We'll bulk order everything from strapworks at once. We may hit their $80 free shipping mark.

I've also been lurking on the Sunrider Base forum because I'm moving there in the next couple of months, and I came across their TFA X-Wing pilot build from last year recently. I mined that for resources.

They had an alternate to the ruffle elastic that's listed that's very slightly cheaper, but has the better bonus of not being nearly sold out. https://strapcrafts.com/collections/3-inch-75mm-wide-elastic/products/3-inch-75mm-wide-ruffled-elastic-waistband-elastic-colored-elastic?variant=1160181999

I discovered that we missed a piece while looking through this. There's a plate that rests under the chest box. Chris, do you think that's 3D printable too?

I'll also be bringing my TFA visual guide and collection of the Poe Dameron comic for reference to the first build day. If anyone has time to sort through all of those references and make specific files to print of each piece that we're building that would be very helpful.

There's not enough fraying to bother finishing the edges before first wash. Honestly you could probably get away without finishing the garment seams, but I think it'll prevent slow degradation. I washed my fabric in cold water with detergent and dried it on high heat. Just do whatever you will when you wash your finished suit.

Reminder: when you take measurements for patterning, do so over whatever you're going to wear under the flightsuit. I'm thinking a tank top and bike shorts myself.

Question: Does everyone have Facebook? I don't think we want to be posting hosts' addresses publicly on this forum, and Mark suggested making a closed Facebook group where we can post addresses and other logistics that aren't actually related to the costume itself. I still want to keep everything about the costumes on this public forum so other bases can use this as reference.

Awesome!

Everyone please remember to wash your fabric before the first meeting. We want any shrinking to happen before we cut.

Related to cutting, would anyone be opposed to pooling our fabric for more efficient patterning? Everyone brings their 3-4+ yards and we cut it however is most efficient. This is mostly important for people who bought their fabric as a group with Mark's 16 yards purchase. That way we can be more efficient with longer pieces and we'll probably have some left over if irreparable mistakes are made during sewing.

Does anyone have the Black Series 6 inch Poe figure? If so, would you please bring it to the first build day?

Facebook for private address details works for me.

Cutting fabric en masse sounds great. We still need to get a pattern for the suits. Both of the commercial jumpsuit patterns I've found require a ton of modifications. If one of the other bases has patterns to share, that would save so much frustration. Danny, do you have one you're willing to let us use?

I'm not volunteering to take flightsuit lead yet, but I definitely know a lot about sewing and pattern design. You could probably talk me into it Katherine if nobody else steps up.

Mark, I don't have a Poe figure, but I was thinking about bringing my Sphero BB-8 for moral support. Smile

Danny is modifying one of the KwickSew patterns. Bless Danny. Rook (Alidoro) and I have to miss the meeting on the 22nd, so we're just going to power through sewing on the 16th and 17th right after we get everything cut out and have talked to Danny. I can bring our suits to someone on my way to Seattle for the research conference I'm going to on the 19th or 20th. Then you'll all still have a physical costume to look at when sewing on the 22nd.

lol a support BB-8 sounds good!

Facebook works for me.

If anyone that is interested in the chest box and panel could message me, I am building a spreadsheet to track and plan the print timeline. I'm also good with trading printing and painting skills for sewing skills!
