Hi everyone,
I already mentioned once or twice the wish to do a new blaster for my senate guard, current blaster getting old and more and more damaged even with repairs.
Even if I will not start printing right now, I've started working on the 3D model ! Smile

Here are first glimpse. I would like your opinion between the two version of the stock following. Difference is one as a large "neck" where the blaster will join it. What do you think :
1) Looks better ?
2) Is more accurate ?
It's a small difference of only 1 cm approximately, but still, I find it has an impact on the aesthetic of the weapon.

Thinner

Thicker

Plan for the blaster print is to get a printer aesthetic part, with a central metallic rod for strength at least for stock and barrel. To be determine for the main body which might have more a flat metal sheet in aluminium for the strength.
The idea is also to make it easy to be taken apart in 3 parts :
- Stock + rod to go in main body
- Main body
- Barrel + rod to go in main body.

I've moved forward on modeling. Barel is mostly done and I've done a quick mockup of the main body to get an idea how it would look like Wink

Not getting access for few minutes to my first rifle pics, I quickly search for reference pictures again (I didn't wanted to do again the job I did few years ago). And I must say I've got a concern about that. It seems most of the props done are based on each others, instead of a good reference pictures... which just doesn't exist in fact.
The only one existing showing one part of the rifle is this one : http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:1blasterrifle.jpg which is from ep 1 Insider's guide apparently. Would anybody have this book to confirm the source ?

thanks !

And here is final model. All comments are welcomed !
The model still need to be modified for printing (hollow the structure, cut in printable parts, add join mechanism... but this will depend on which printer I decide to print it !)
Once I have some time for that, I will print the blaster and if everything goes well, I will make the file available for free Smile

And some image superposition to compare with the model !

There are 2 semi cylinder blocks on the top of the main body. To be honest, I find weird looking that the back one is not the same length than the engravement with 3 black dots just under it. I find this a lack of elegance for something which should be the more elegant possible.
Do you think I should get this semi cylinder same length ?
Like that :

I think it looks better and as we don't have much good ref pics... what is your opinion ?

This is fantastic! Thanks so much for documenting this whole process and making these files available. Mr. Green

Tough question. Your version does look good, so unless better references can be found then go with what your gut feeling says regarding aesthetics.

Thank you for the kind words ! Very Happy
Anyway, I think the final files will be available with various options for some of the parts Wink So everybody is happy

A bit like that for the rear junction.

Edit : There are 4 options for the rear junction, in black. The copper link is the base 12mm copper tube going all the way through the blaster for better strength.

I like that idea. Smile Gives different options and opportunity to fiddle with the dimensions.

Current length is meant to be 1m21cm5mm377µm ^^
So 1,20 m Wink
And 20cm height, for 45mm thickness on largest parts. Wink

Why do you ask ?

Also for info, when pack in 3 part for travel, front and middle part will likely be around 55cm, and back part will be around 25cm Wink

I'm asking because someone was going to build one for me and wondered what the total length was going to be.
So 1.20 meters it seems.

Well, this is based on my measurements, the best would be to have other people telling what they did Smile But you can compare on pics. With side ones you can get good size estimation Wink See following pic

WOW, well done, this is fantastic work Ritin, you have obviously put many hours into this and it has paid off, I will be following this thread because like you, my blaster is sooooo heavy after an hours troop and a light version is just what the Doctor ordered.
And it is very generous of you to make the files available, a big thank you in advance.
