Finally!

So this is pretty much your basic SWTOR Jedi armor; I have my own set of screenshots to show how it should be shaped on a tiny woman (there are shockingly few examples of this easily found online). So while my character fights in fabulous purple armor, I fully acknowledge that's the result of a dye pack and I will be painting it in the approved silver/green paint scheme. Razz

Starting a thread because today my giant box of EVA foam came in, as did my shoes! The foam will be the core of the armor, and I'll cover it in worbla for durability and detail work.

My sketch so far:

And the shoes!

Next step: making a mold of my arm/leg so I can start building armor pattern pieces. Very Happy

Well, my render tests are tremendously slow and my lead has given all of us permission to work on whatever side projects we want if we're not busy, so today I made a mold of my arm!

I don't really want to risk getting expanding foam all over my office, and doing my leg would be hella inappropriate at work (I mean, my door does lock but come on.....), so I'll do the rest at home. But hey, this means I can get some poster board and start making patterns!

I expect you'd need to make it. The SWTOR robes like this don't close in front. I did one for my Relnex type costume and it worked out fine.

I'm definitely making it myself, haha. Looks like it should be a pretty simple pattern, and fabric-wise I'm going to try to find a not soul-crushingly expensive crepe wool, as this will require a fair bit of yardage, heh.

I'm making a trip to the fashion district in a couple of weeks, so hopefully I'll find something good there!

Cheers for the reply,

I'm terrible at sewing so I'm thinking of modifying a full sleeved jedi robe and hoping that works!

Legitimately, if you can sew straight lines Jedi robes are a good place to practice/learn sewing. But either modifying an existing robe, or just commissioning someone to make a shorter sleeved one should work just fine! I don't know who the top robe makers are these days, but any one of them would likely be happy to make you one with shorter sleeves.

True true it probably would be a good time to learn sewing but I have 7 weeks until I need to debut the costume for a con down here so not sure I will have the time, but we will see I suppose! Very Happy

Okay, despite lack of updates I have been trying to work on this, haha.

It's not perfectly even, but trimming it down will be pretty easy.I'll probably have to heat curve it back down, but we'll see how that goes, ha. My plan is to get some wood filler to fill in the cracks, so my worbla will look better once it goes on. Right now it looks kind of terrifying with all the glue, but thankfully basically none of this will be visible by the time I'm done, ha.
