I have a new potential member who wishes to persue a Lando costume. Are there any tutorials or anything that could assist him in making the ESB Bespin costume? I realize that there are only two active members who actually have this costume approved and that is it, which makes it difficult to get help for him with this. Any assistance would be great. Thanks!

Not sure it helps, but you might try and track down the costume designer (Corey Sosner) from this fake trailer:

The costumes are dead on, so he might be able to point you in the right direction...

You may also want to contact Phyliss on this. I know she was working on a Lando at a local level.

She may have a bit more info and documentation.

I've been asked to help with Dagobah's soon-to-be Lando, specifically the cape. And I so do love his ESB cape! It's actually a very interesting problem and I can't wait to get started on a prototype, designing the pattern and calculating yardage. I actually started working on the initial patterning tonight. I will be making a couple of small scale prototypes to make sure my ratios are correct, but I am blogging about my journey through the design and construction processes. (if anyone is interested in the blog, it's linked in the Dagobah section. I'd rather not blog spam).

Essentially, the cape is too full to be a simple half circle cape. It is also too long. This will require the use of 4 roughly trapezoidal pieces to get the general shape. I am working right now based on the fabric width of the proposed lining (44 inches), so I may add three trianglular pieces in the seams to increase the bottom:top ratio. This could result in the cape being well over 200 inches along the bottom! That would make for one very sweet and very full cape!

If anyone has any other suggestions, I would love to hear them!

Is there a pattern for the cape? It is a circle but seing it on screen shows no seams for it to be made in secions. I am doing this for one of our members and trying to figure out what to do with amount of fabric etc.

It has occurred to me that when he was aboard the Millennium Falcon, in consequence of the rendezvous, that Lando Calrissian, since he, like Han Solo, is originally from Corellia, was probably also a captain in the Corellian Merchant Marine, as I suspect Solo himself had once been. That would have explained his outfit in the last tableau in the episode where the Empire struck back--I surmise that this is the standard uniform for Corellian Merchant Marine smuggling-freighter captains.

John Willard of Corellia was definitely a captain in the Corellian Merchant Marine, and a smuggling-freighter captain at that. He devoted his ship, the Free Ranger, to smuggling whatever cargo paid him the most credits--munitions, agrarian commodities, MMOs(metals, minerals, and/or ores), drugs legal and not, and passengers. His uniform breeches, unlike Han Solo's, had no bloodstripes. But they did have cargo pockets.

When I submit my photos, they will be of me, as John Willard, outfitted in what I have surmised is his Corellian Merchant Marine uniform.

Hi John! Welcome to the Rebel Legion.

If you are interested in smuggler costumes, you may get more attention and feedback by posting a new topic instead of replying in an old one about Lando. I only saw your post because I happened to check the forums at the right time and saw it on the recent activity list.
I also recommend dropping by the Fringe Costuming Forums, where we discuss and share build info on smugglers like Han, Chewie, Lando, etc.

As I see you are working on a custom costume, please understand that while many members do make custom costumes, they are creative personal projects that are worn at low key events like conventions and such. Like the 501st, customs aren't accepted as membership costumes in the Rebel Legion, as we are built around established Star Wars costumes.
Many members make them and there is some discussion about having a gallery or showcase of some sort for existing members.

I wrote a little explanation on why we don't accept customs that might help explain why Generic smuggler?

Again, welcome to the Legion and good luck on whatever costume(s) you decide to make, regardless of whether or not the costumes are admissible in the Legion.

These images, from "Customs For The Kid," show how John Willard's uniform may look. Note that Lando Calrissian is shown wearing it in both.

Apologies for the large sizes of both.

I am looking for the standards for General Calrisian from ep vi in the war room.. do we have those? I checked DB94 and fringe and rebel command and found nothing.

The images which my second post showed were those of Lando Calrissian as he appeared in the end scene of Epi V. That will be my outfit in character as John Willard.

The main difference will be that my breeches will be bloused into high black boots without visible zippers. Surely THAT much IS permitted under Ghost Base and Rebel Legion standards?

In the time ahead, I will seek out a black garment which I can easily convert to the black smuggler's doublet that John Willard customarily wears.

And yes, the according look WILL ultimately be virtually identical to that of the outfit which Lando Calrissian wore in the last tableau in which the Empire struck back.
