HERE WE GO AGAIN....
I really want to do the U-wing pilot. Because I never can do the easy stuff, glutton for self-torture, etc.
We have a couple samples of a nylon "teal" fabric coming, and I want to make this happen!! _________________ Generic Clone Wars-era Jedi

THAT'S IT-- That is the webbing!
Where did Ian find that stuff?
Synthetic dye might be a good option to tint it gray. I used iDye synthetic red for the elastic ruffle of the TFA suit arms. _________________ Generic Clone Wars-era Jedi

I wonder if just the color of the Blue Squadron suit is custom but the flightsuit was made using a real world flightsuit pattern, which would still mean it was "made from scratch". Star Wars suits haven't had zippers traditionally, and the placement of the zippers match real world flightsuits, so that makes me wonder if they just used a pattern for a real flightsuit, which had the zippers on it. _________________ B-wing Pilot - Jedi - Resistance X-wing Pilot - Temmin "Snap" Wexley

One of our guys in the UK asked on Twitter if the suits were existing suits or all custom.
I'm afraid to say they said what we all feared - all custom made - but we'll have to get this confirmed at the event in London later this month.
I still they are based on a real world suit and in all liklihood the CWU-1/P 1960's flight suit is the model. Nothing else comes close to style and design and the material they are trying to copy is Rayon.
These suits are available in some sizes but could be expensive to dye and make a mistake - also it needs mods to make 2 large pockets, map pocket on leg and the code cylinder pocket. So it maybe awkward getting spare material. There is a hood with the suit so thats an option.
If anyone has more info please post up ! |

I sent glyn Dillon a tweet as well.
@glyn_dillon Glyn! loving the costumes in R1.Felt as if I was in the OT! quick question, Blue Squadron. Suits? Material? Custom made? TY!
response....
@nnaydolem Thanks. Yes, custom made and... Nylon that we dyed and aged. :-)
so yes they made them and it was a custom color AND they weathered them. SOOOOO that being said. i literally have about 20 swatches of nylon en route.
more to come. |

Good deal.... the more I looked at that real flight suit, the less I was convinced they were conversions. Quite possibly patterned after them, like you were saying, Alex, but with changes to bring them closer to OT X-wing (the shoulder yoke seams & the upper thigh pockets, namely).
I just posted in another thread that I'm sure that converted SPH-3 helmets were used for U-wing pilots. _________________ Generic Clone Wars-era Jedi

Well I am totally in if we can get someone to make the flightsuites. I really like the costume. I am sure it will be hot like my TFA pilot, but oh well. |

I couldn't find this thread in the X-Wing board and I almost had a panic attack…
As far as Cassian's Jacket goes I do believe it's a different fabric. I've been doing a lot of studying on these things. Still trying to find out which flight suit they modeled Blue Squadron after |

Sorry, I moved everything to this subforum to keep it orderly.
The people from Columbia used a film used suit to match the color, and Lucasfilm signed off on the jacket with no changes. I think the color is close.
The color something is, and what it looks like on film are sometimes quite different. Columbia did a really good job on the first try. The only jacket they asked for color changes on was Jyn Erso's and they had them make it darker than their prototype.
We need a good picture of a color sample from a film used suit if possible to be certain. I'm hoping there will be one on display at Celebration _________________ Proud U.S. Army Veteran

Yeah Cassian's parka definitely looks like the same material as the Blue Squadron flight suits. Same pleated arm strips, commpad pocket too. _________________ Generic Clone Wars-era Jedi
