this could be one of those abbberation costumes, cobbled together for a scene.

I tend to agree with that...
It is difficult to tell (because you can't see the knees) if the actor in the scene above has on regular Trench Trooper pants or whether he has a Trench Trooper jacket on over the flightsuit...

What I was referring to is the fact that the "hangar trooper" has a Snowspeeder Pilot wrist comm....as you can see in this image, and what I had always thought is that "Hangar Troopers" had the Trench Trooper style of wrist comm...see the guy all the way on the left...

yeah, I have noticed hanger troopers dressed like Luke before with the two piece design instead of the coveralls. I have seen more then one in different pictures and was going to bring it up, but forgot. I think it should be an option.

I agree the colors on screen look very light compared to the picture in the book. If the Vest and suits are both shades of tan then the vest is a very dark shade compared to the suit. The difference of shades on screen seems very extreme compared to the book photo.

I am still waiting for the fabric dye to arrive from Dharma for my jumpsuit...
which I did a lot of re-working on...

and..
now while waiting for dye...
I started to mess around with that rank "badge" that goes above the large pocket on the right sleeve...

First...
since I need to use this jumpsuit for both the Yavin Tech and the Hoth Hangar Trooper/Tech then I really can't sew that "patch" onto the jumpsuit...
it needs to be off of there for Yavin...

so I had to make a small white canvas panel at double thickness so I can pin the panel to the jumpsuit from the back without seeing the pins...the pins go through only the inner layer of fabric

As far as the design on one of those panels...

I am experimenting around on the scrap piece you see on the arm in the photo above...
using just common stuff

pencil, pen, black sharpie, red sharpie and acrylic paints...

I actually like how the pencil (for the grid lines) came out...
and also like just the ballpoint pen for those black symbols...

the red and orange of the other "dots"...yeah...
that will need some more work...
the red sharpie bleeds...
and the paints are a little bright...
but..
I do kind of plan on dipping the piece ever so briefly in tan dye...so that might mute the colors...
and...
of course...the piece below is just scrap...so I don't really have the lines on the red and orange dots straight..

Smile

Phyllis, try fabric paint pens and masking tape to mask off the areas where you want the color. For larger areas, you can use the bottled fabric paint. An other thing you can try for fabrics with an uneven surface is to 'prime' the fabric with a clear acrylic before you paint. That way the liquid in the paint will not penetrate the fiber as much an cause the bleeding around the edges.

I threw the one you see away...
that was just an experimental piece of scrap

what I did find was that I had some fabric markers...
they seemed to do a pretty good job...

I just bought a Crayola brand set of fabric markers that I happened to spot awhile back at Walmart...I had not used them before...
so..

more experimentation...

Very Happy

Vest looks great Phyllis - how did you remove the quilting on the pocket flaps? Did you just unpick the stitching, or did you make new flaps?

I just used a seam ripper on the quilting...it was a little tedious...but not too bad...

yeah..
the whole color thing is nuts...
and...
honestly...

this insignia that is supposed to be on the flightsuits..

I have never seen a hint of that on any screen capture..

but...

I will be the first to admit that my eyesight is very poor...

as you can see here we had to make them. Mine is made the same way that Phyllis made hers and its a double layer of heavy cotton duck fabric.

I used sharpies and it has bled a little. I want to redo it to match the new Rogue One style that looks screen printed.
