So I updated my costume and I met a Kylo Ren at the ComicCon this weekend in Vienna and it was absolutely amazing.
I am still working on the costume for a new application but I think it is going better now than the first time. Still having trouble finding the right fabric for the wrapdress.

Currently working on mask, gloves and backpack.

I'm using this Simplicity pattern for the pants (the one with the gathers).

The bottom cuff needs some modification.

Do you have any suggestion on how to achieve the washed out gray color in the pants and wrap dress...? I'm thinking about using a sponge dipped in gray acrylic spray-paint.
Not really experienced in dying fabrics, so I'm a bit stressed out. My base is already an off white/tan(ish) color .

Edit: The lights don't help - it's Not that yellow

Yes you can try acrylic, if it's to deep you can wash it with bleach it's what I did with my pants. I first dye my pants with gray but it come really dark gray, so I wash it with bleach and that was perfect !

Thanks!! I was eventually able to find some spray paint that is specific for fabrics.

I tried it on scraps Of fabric and this is how it turned out - looking good enough I think.

Hey everyone just wanted to touch base to see if anyone can give me some ideas for a Rey costume. I am a member of the 501st and can sew. My question is that I just finished my Kylo Ren costume and my daughter wants to go as Rey. At our house we do not do store bought costumes I make everything either out of foam or fabric. My issue is though to get a 100% movie accurate Rey it will require a lot of money for a costume she will outgrow quickly. The area where I am struggling with is finding shirts and pants I can modify instead of starting from scratch. The wrap around her torso, arms, legs, I will purchase fabric for. Also I am modifying a pair of used UGG boots, and will make the belt and bracelet out of leather. I am currently working on a staff. So I am not wanting to go super cheap but trying to keep it all under $100.00. If anyone can lead me into a good starting point that would be great. I am not looking for the whole costume just the base when she is in the town on Jakku. Thanks for the help.

Hi, for the top you can modify a shirt and use pants as in the film, the tabards are made of long crinkle fabric you can dye with tea. The staff is available in small size for children and quite accurate I believe and cost only 24dollars. The wrap seems to be a shirt with long sleeves you can also dye with tea.

I started working on my Rey and while I know there needs to be a lot of work done on just the shirt and pants alone, I would like some opinions and criticisms. https://www.facebook.com/Onceandfuturesnowqueen/ I can't figure out how to post pictures here yet so the progress photos are in album Adventures in sewing
