A simple leather glove, to give you an example. Like what Luke or Mara Jade wear. Brown or black are generally also 'safe' colors for this.
As for references, all media can be used as long as you use a reference of the right type of costume.

Progress has been made. We actually finished the basic costume in time for the opening night of The Force Awakens. Unfortunately, I haven't got great photos from the night, but here are a few that show you what I ended up with at that stage. What is missing is the pouches, food capsules and a suitable lightsaber hilt.

An under-tunic was also made but since I wasn't there representing the Legion (since I am not an approved member yet) and it was too hot, I didn't wear it.

The colours are:

  • overtunic - dark blue
  • tabard/obi - medium grey
  • pants - light grey
  • under-tunic - light grey
  • belt - brown
  • boots - brown

Since then, I have got more of the items for the belt - 2 pouches and 4 food capsules.

For the last year, I have also been designing a steampunk-style saber hilt out of brass/bronze/copper and wood. I found a pair of hourglass timers and some parts from a garden watering system that I would like to combine. I went to a Build Day at Hoth Base and got more advice on how to put this together (the photo just shows how I am thinking of arranging everything) but for approval I might have make a simpler design. My wife has found a black torch that makes an ideal quick-and-easy hilt (but unfortunately does not have the steampunk look). I might end up using that in order to speed up my approval.

I will try to get more photos done to give you all a better idea of the outfit, but hopefully not much will need to be changed so I can apply for approval soon.

I love your Colors!
And that lightsaber! *drools* For me as a Steampunk, I absolutely love it! Great work! I didn't dare to make mine that much steampunky, but at least I could sneak in lots of brass, copper and leather... and some cogs in the blade-plug. But yours is great! I'm not sure if it can be approved, but it's awesome!

To speed up finishing everything, I have made a simpler, low-cost lightsabre hilt. I used some of the parts used by Obsi in her lightsabre but also added a variety of odds and ends that I have collected. Not quite steampunk, but a similar approach to reusing and recycling.

Now I just have to attach it to my hilt and get some photos done so I can register the costume.

Submitted my application to register the costume and become a RL member. Crossing fingers that there are no problems.

Since you obviously joined the Legion, congratulations and welcome!
And keep building that steampunk saber, I want to see it when it's ready!

Yes, I was approved after only one day! Such speed. Thank you to the LCJs.

Don't you worry. I am still looking for the final parts for the lightsabre. I started a thread in the lightsabre section (http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=72453).
