Hi all
Here is my write up on what Iíve done with my Rey costume.
First of all, Iíve based my costume on speeder Rey. She is wearing her head wraps, goggles, gloves, bracer, arm wraps, dress wrap and has a bag on her belt in those pictures.
My reference pictures

https://www.dropbox.com/s/c7msfcc9xu5grbv/file%202015-10-30%2C%2013%2018%2006.jpeg?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/49cxbrwdfabgnse/file%202015-10-30%2C%2013%2013%2017.png?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/nv4d9jag70g24zv/file%202015-10-30%2C%2013%2011%2013%20%281%29.jpeg?dl=0
I took into consideration of the list of parts and materials used as seen in those pictures. Iíve also been following the Rey conversation on the RPF.
So letís start with my goggles.
I took a TK helmet with TK bubble lenses to make the goggles. There is brown elastic to hold it to my head. The range finder is a piece of wood I turned on a lathe and painted. It is attached with a third hand piece. I took butterfly anchors to make the side pieces and will most likely upgrade them once I find the correct windshield wiper part in a junk yard. Iíve hand sewn the top piece to match the thread pattern on the pictures. Whatís left for me to do is darken/weather them so they donít look so new.
The head wrap I am replacing the material with cotton from dharma trading company. I will update that picture when I receive the material.
The shirt Iíve sewn myself and will make another once the hemp cotton blend comes in from the same company. I had found material close to what the pictures look like in the meantime.
The belt I cut and dyed myself from a blank piece of leather. There is twine on the front part of the side and I will be adding the missing twine on the back side of the belt.
The dress wrap I will be sewing to make it look more scrunched at the shoulders.
The arm bandages are currently medical gauze. I will be working on something a little more permanent to replace them.
The pants are from forever 21 and have been adapted to capris. They have ďtailsĒ at the cuff to be able to criss cross them around my calfs.
The gloves are the petzl gloves that Iíve weathered. I still think they are a little too yellow and will work on making them darker.
The bracer is from that same leather blank. It is three pieces the first being dyed dark brown, the second and third to give it the contrast. From my pictures I need to cut the tail a little more and maybe find a way to tape it down.
The boots are the real thing from po-zu.
The bag is a medical bag Iíve altered. Iíve removed one of the straps and sewed in an A.L.I.C.E clip in its place. Iíve also moved the second strap over to accommodate that. One thing I have to fix on the bag is the markings. It was drawn on so I will have to find a way to remove the marks.

great work so far! you've done your research. i'm glad to see someone identified the corner pieces of her goggles as butterfly anchors/windshield wiper parts. i knew they looked familiar!

For some reason I cannot open your photos. Is there a way to post them again? I would love to see your costume!

That looks great. Did you already approve it?

Are you happy with the gloves? I am thinking of ordering them too.

Your goggles look great. I am making mine from scratch, foam, hot glue and fabric but it proves to be more difficult than I expected.

No I am not approved as of yet. The gloves are ok. I had to take the cuff off and that's shortened them but they look ok.

Heh as for the goggles I had quite the fun time making mine too. I used an old tk helmet to get the form but the bubble lenses don't stick out as far. I'm just being picky.
So far arm bandages from the local drug store seem to work best for her arm wraps.

the forever21 pants are these: http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?br=F21&category=bottom&productid=2000116503

question: what sort of dyeing/weathering did you use on your materials? i'm trying to figure out the color matching for the overwrap and the pants.

For the dye:
I used Dharma Trading dyes. They work 100 times better than any other dye I tried! I used Dharma Ecru mixed in equal parts with Dharma Safari Grey (just the ecru dye is too pink and the grey on its own is too grey). The first time I dyed this it came out too brown so I actually had to dye it a second time with a 2 to 1 mix of Safari Grey to Ecru.

I used this for the tabard and arm wraps and head wrap. I dyed my shirt with tea and didn't need to dye the pants Smile
