* Name of event: Annual Northpark Mall Salvation Army Star Wars Bell Ringing
* Website (if any):
* Event Location (Address): Northpark Mall, Dallas, TX
* Event Coordinator (Name, email, ph #): Calvin Carter, calvin.carter@bottlerocketstudios.com, 2148684266
* Date of Event: Saturday, December 19, 2015
* 501st Arrival Time: 1230pm
* 501st Start Time: 1pm
* 501st End Time: 3pm
* Indoor or Outdoor Event?: Indoor
* Will parking be made available to the attending members? Parking is available in the mall parking lot, but honestly it’s really crowded.
* Are there any parking costs?: No
* Purpose of event (i.e.; Charity, fundraiser, promotion, private party, etc.): Charity fundraiser for Salvation Army
* Expected number of attendees: There are thousands of people at Northpark during the holidays
* Number of costume characters requested: 8
* Any specific character requests?: Vader, TK’s, Bounty hunters, Mandalorians, Jedi, Jawas and more are all welcome. ;-)
* Do you only want costumes that appears in the Star Wars movies?: Movies or animated series
* Will a secure changing room be provided?: Yes, at Maggiano's.
* Will there be any cost to the attending members?: No
* Will there be any cost to the attending members guests (spouses/family)?: No
* Will a charitable donation be made to an organization in the name of The Rebel Legion?: Because people put cash in the buckets, it won’t be in the Rebel Legion name specifically
* Are fake guns and other weapon props allowed? (stormtrooper blasters, lightsabers, and such)?: No guns allowed. Lightsabers are probably ok...
* Is there anything else we should know about the event? (such as how many additional guests can attending troops bring?) : We will have three (possibly 4) stations through the mall, all at the same time to maximize effect. Last year it was amazing how many people took photos and donate money the entire time we were there. I’m happy to reduce the time to 1.5 hours if you think that would be better for the troopers because it’s a busy time of year. And I’m also happy to adjust the start time. This will be the third year we do this. First year I did alone to see if it worked well. The second year about 6 people did it, including a Vader which, of course, was awesome. This year I’d like to do 501st/Rebel Legion joint event. Luke Wallace is coordinating the Rebel Legion side of things.
* Will a presentation area be provided so that we may bring banners, brochures, temporary tattoos, and/or photo backdrops?: No
* Will water be made available to the troopers in attendance?: I could have someone bring water if you’d like.

PS - when walking into the mall, we aren’t allowed to wear the helmets. When we are at our Salvation Army station, we can wear them. When we move to another station (if we want to rotate) then we remove during the time we’re walking to next station. This is a policy of the mall. ;-)

-----

I am helping co-organize this event, and work with Calvin, so if you have any questions, just let me know. He has worked with Maggiano's in the past to get a private dining room to use as a changing area. This will be EpVII opening weekend, but hopefully late enough in the day on Saturday that people can recover a bit before coming.

Maggiano's has confirmed that they will be holding a private room for us to use as a changing area, and a place to store our totes during the event!

I have now been asked to acquire participating member's email address and phone number.

Please post them here, or send me a PM.

We have a Vader, TK, and Rex signed up on the 501st side so far, it'd be great to have a few more rebels!

From the organizer:

The Force is STRONG this weekend!

Thank you for volunteering to ring the bell for the Salvation Army at Northpark this Saturday the 19th following the premier of “The Force Awakens." I know the timing of the opening weekend for the new saga and the joy of the holidays will truly encourage people to give and help so many families in need this time of year.

Attached is an schedule of events, what to expect when you get to the mall and contact information of participants and on site coordinators. The Salvation Army team, Northpark Mall and Maggiano’s recognize that getting into character takes some work, and have been extremely gracious in supporting our volunteer efforts this weekend.

When you arrive (between 12 and 1:00), please go to the Maggiano’s valet stand, located on the NWY side of the mall. Unload your trunks and valet park. If valet is full, a Salvation Army rep will help you unload your trunks and wait with them while you find parking. The General Manager of Maggiano’s, Ty has a room upstairs at Maggiano’s that will allow for an open changing area and trunk storage. The space is not huge, but should work fine for our groups needs. If you do not need to change on site, I encourage you to change at home and come in character.

All characters will meet a Salvation Army representative on the inside of the mall/Maggiano’s entrance at 1:45pm to be escorted to stations, where you will ring the bell, bring cheer, and wait for a shift change at 4:00pm.

After your shift, please change back at Maggiano’s, get your trunks, and ask Ty at Maggiano’s to validate your parking.

We look forward to celebrating Star Wars and giving back to our community on the busiest shopping day of the year!
