|
|
|
I've been using industrial strength velcro on the shoulder part of my outer tunic and on the underside of my tabbards. Which works very well, however the adhesive only sticks for about one session of wearing my costume and then I have to reapply new strips every time. I don't want to sew them on because then I'll have visible thread on my tabbards. Any suggestions to either get the velcro to stick better or some other solution entirely? |

If you tabbards are double layered snaps work good or the stitching used on sew on velcro won't be seen. _________________

My velcro is stitched on. It's not visible because my tabards are double layered and the velcro is only sewn on the inside. _________________

I did the same as these two did. _________________ Master/General Edakin

I use snaps on the shoulders and Velcro on each one of the tabards that connect under the sash _________________ 'Just because I don't like to fight. Doesn't mean I can't' |

I use the heavy duty snaps - on on each shoulder about an inch in from where the shoulder and arm connect. I used to snap the tabbards under the obi as well, but found they would not lay right after trooping for more than an hour. _________________ Star Dancer - Stardancer1914 aka Dianne Althouse

Industrial-strength glue.
....just kidding, I use snaps as well, on the shoulders about an inch out from the neck band. As others have said, my tabards are double-layered and the snaps are only stitched to the bottom layer. _________________

I use bra hooks, because my tabbards aren't as thick, and I'm afraid regular press snaps will show _________________ May the Force be with you. Oh wait, the Force is with me. Tough luck for you. |

obi-wan's are stitched in place.
you can see a hint of it here.
the robe is pulling 'sideways' on his tabard, and you can see a small stitch holding the tabbard in place.
(Ewan's right shoulder; your left).

this inspired me to do the same thing -- I've got at least 2 tunic sets where the tabbards are permanently stitched to the tunic. it works well. the only issue comes, when its time to wash your costume."hand wash, hang to dry" becomes the only option. _________________

Huh. I never noticed that Obi-Wan's tabards are roll hemmed. What a surprise.
I use my tabards for two sets of tunics so sewing them in is not an option I can use. And as you said it creates challenges when you need to wash it. _________________

I like snap tape. A little easier to apply, since it can be machine sewn to the tunic. Then hand stitched to the tabard's bottom layer. They usually stay on well enough to keep there when it's hanging up.

I use loops and buttons. Loops on the inside seams of my tabards, and buttons on the shoulders of my tunic. _________________

Probably suggested already but I used button snaps. Shoulders, waist and back behind the obi. I'm about to add snaps to my outer tunic under the collar to keep that from opening too much. |
