I'm planning to make a chain for my kit out of polymer clay and copper craft wire. I know it will be challenging but I want to better myself at this.
Ive looked some pictures of the original chain for reference, but I want to know if anyone has any suggestions. I'm rolling the clay in 3/8 inch diameter cylinders and planning to make the links 1 1/2- 1 3/4 inch diameter by using a measured cutting board I have.
I'll post pictures of the WIP. |

I was able to make some relatively accurate Slave Leia chain for my wife using wooden curtain rod grommets from somewhere like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. I was able to just cut through the grommet and *carefully* pull it apart and link the next one to it. This means you would only have to cut every other link to create the chain.
I didn't find a link to the wooden ones we used, but something like this would probably work just as well:

Once the basic chain was created from the grommets, I then wrapped a thin copper wire in the N, S, E, W positions and glued into place. Of course, before putting the wire on I first painted the wooden grommets the requisite silver color and then coated with a clear topcoat.
The finished product looks really great, and we are constantly receiving questions about where we got the chain because it looks so screen- accurate. Hope this info was helpful to you! |
