Below is the proposed standard for the Celebration scene variant of the Rebel Trooper, as seen in A New Hope.

Please cast your vote on the poll to confirm or deny the following standards.

Comments on the proposed standards will continue to be made in this thread: http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22303

Quote:
"Celebration Scene Rebel Trooper"

The standard would be the following:

Required Items:

Unique tan/cream/beige hat.

1. The brim has a rounded shape, not "squared off" like modern caps.
2. There are no rows of top stitching on the brim like on the Imperial caps or modern caps.
3. The cap is constructed from six segments, with a one of the seams in the center of the cap (you can see them in the backs of the hat, and by the way the material dips between the seams).
4. The cap is constructed to follow the natural contour of the head, and not present a "hatbox" shape with vertical sides or front.
5. There are no grommets on the body of the hat - metal or stitched.
6. Caps are made to size, there are no adjustable tabs or straps on the back of the hat.
7. There is no top "button".
8. There is a flap on the rear of the cap, that appears to be about 1/4 to 1/3 the width of the overall cap. It is much shorter than the Rebel caps worn on Endor.
9. The flap has a edge trim possibly 1/2" wide. It is not known if ther is visible top stitching or if all the seams are inside (like the Imperial caps).
10. The flap has a gradual curve from the ends, reaching maximum height at the rear of the cap. It does not cover the ears, in contrast to the sharp rise as seen on the Hoth caps.
To be accurate, these hats will have to be constructed from scratch.

Long-sleeve blue workshirt with bib in front (blue chambrey or blue oxford button-down recommended). No button down collars. Bibb should sit flush at neckline and not sag. Note that chambray is a fabric that combines blue and white threads, but when viewed under normal conditions, the shirt looks to be a slight gray/blue. Color should be light to medium. Shirts that are too dark blue are not permitted.

Black, collarless vest with pockets (at least 4 pockets are recommended) and no visible buttons

Light Grey pants with large cargo pockets

Black mid-calf boots (or suitable substitute, shaft should be 11-13 inches tall; taller boots can have the pants bloused over to appear shorter). No rubber boots.

Belt: Solid leather or vinyl - no holes or decorations. Buckle can be rectangular or oval. Buckle is approx 2". Color of belt should be a "canyon tan" or "range tan" color - which is brown with a slight reddish overtone.

Optional Item - Not Required for Formal

Accurate Holster
belt boxes on belt
pockets on the back of the vest

Sounds good! Voted.

Is this a good time and place to suggest adding leg flares to these standards as well as the regular RFT ones as optional items? Wink

I also think that this will make an excellent RL entry costume for potential members. It's easy enough to make (you don't need to sew/assemble anything from scratch) and with just a little effort and investment it can be turned into a full-fledged RFT. Great stuff.

I think that the cap standards are too "nitpicking".
The cap never can be seen clearly in the movie that long or often to stick that hard to it, imho.
I´m absolute on the "no standard baseball cap" side, but...if you have no sewing skills and have to make a seemstress work on the cap for matching "these" standards you probably also can order a helmet, from the financial side of view (I hope you understand what I mean).

"Some" parameters are o.k., but for me the "overall appearance" is more important than this or that detail.

What I miss on these standards is the brim´s size - for me the RFT cap has a clearly visible longer brim that a standard baseball cap. This can be seen on a quick view at the overall look - and not if theré´s stiching on the brim.

Just my honest thoughts....

Question:

Is the cap from ShVagYeR (Michael Szymanski), Schph Gochi (Phyllis Schulte) and me then ok (formal)?

I have not six segments......

If the caps are formal, it might be good if one of these caps as picture shows, to give others RL-members a better idea than the difficult image to be recognized.

I'm not sure whether you should specify as many standard points for a simple cap......at least the point with the stitching (brim) I would not look so extreme.

[Where I have opinions....
I am not sure how much they matter.

As I have said from the get go
the Celebration Scene was a comedy of errors when you look at a LOT of the costumes that were featured in it...

There are some crazy things that the Pilots are wearing too...
and
the Pilot judges are sticking to this part of the club charter

"In all cases, costumes must be sourced to licensed properties and no “flubs, goofs, or continuity errors”."

It is my guess that when it came to the Celebration Scene, the prop department had extra RFT soft pieces but not enough buckets...so they stuck some hats on the extras...

dunno...

bottom line...
whatever you guys decide is fine with me...

Yep! It´s just "some caps" that can´t be seen very good or long enough to see that many details.

So, as Lothar already stated:
Maybe the standard should only show some pics of his caps (as there are no usable movie pics!) and the essential parameters (that really can be seen!) like:
- overall look according pics shown with longer brim and flap on backside
- no "normal baseball cap" construction allowed
- no top bottom allowed
- cap will have to be made by scratch (unless provided by whatever vendor)

The most important thing imho is the "first overall image" you get when seeing this cap, and not it´s construction details.
When it comes to a costume application it is always up to the judge if the cap matches the wanted/ required look - thats what counts.

I know, I´m not the "top to the notch" 100%er when it comes to accuracy, but for me always the fun factor comes first and not the detail nitpicking... Rolling Eyes

I'm coming fairly late to this mind you, but I have a concern about the specificness of this particular build. Because of all the nitpickiness (as stated earlier) for this item you only really get to see see vaguely, is there going to be a free downloadable file (PDF, or whatever) that has the pattern(s) for this thing? This way one can get this made or make it themselves as Inexpensively as possible or at least by a local friend or seamstress to get the fit just right. In my opinion, that file should be made open to all FIRST, before any standards are firmly in place. With that said, I vote no. Also, if the patterns are available, please point me to them.

Thanks for the feedback and participation, everyone.

The costume standards have passed. I'll send this information to our LMO and get it added to the roster.
